Social distancing refers to the practice of maintaining physical distancing between people to curb the spread of a disease (in this case the coronavirus). During the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing has proved as one of the most effective ways to curb the spread of the disease. Although people should have a corona insurance policy to stay financially protected in case they are diagnosed with COVID-19, they must practice social distancing to avoid contracting the disease in the first place.

      Do’s & Don’ts of Social Distancing

Social distancing can help you to avoid coming in close contact with a COVID-19 positive person. However, there are certain do’s and don’ts of social distancing that everyone must follow to effectively beat the COVID-19 pandemic. Take a look:

      Do’s of Social Distancing:

          • Stay Home and Take All Precautions

You must stay home and take all the precautionary measures to avoid catching the coronavirus. Wash your hands from soap and water regularly or use an alcohol-based sanitizer. Step out of your house only for essential purposes, such as to shop grocery items, at non-peak hours with wearing a mask.

          • Maintain Hygiene at Home

You must ensure proper hygiene in your house. Frequently clean or sanitize surfaces that are commonly touched, such as doorknobs, doorbells, etc. Besides, you should also ensure that anybody who comes from outside sanitizes their hands and maintain at least 1-metre distance.

          • Exercise and Stay Fit

Staying fit is important with or without a pandemic. Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, gyms, sports complexes and swimming pools are shut throughout the country. People living in containment zones and lockdown areas are not allowed to leave their homes. In such a situation, you must make sure to exercise at home. Perform simple yoga asanas and exercises to remain fit and not get any lifestyle diseases.

          • Eat Healthy Food and Stay Hydrated

Coronavirus is more critical for people who have comorbidities and weak immunity. Thus, you must build your immunity by eating healthy and a balanced diet so that your body can fight coronavirus. Also, remember to stay hydrated by drinking at least 3-4 litres of water every day.

          • Get Minimum 8 Hours of Sleep

With a pandemic at hand, most of us have to outperform ourselves by doing household chores and working from home. This is got to be tiring and stressful. Thus, you must ensure to get at least eight hours of sleep every day so that your body can rejuvenate itself and you wake up fresh every day.

          • Get Some Sun Exposure

Staying at home can limit or eliminate your exposure to the sun. Getting adequate sun exposure is important for your body to make Vitamin D which is crucial for maintaining bone health. Thus, you must get that necessary sun exposure between 11 am to 2 pm by going to your balcony or near a window.

          • Stay Virtually Connected

Since the outbreak of coronavirus, you might have not been able to meet your relatives and friends. But with technological advancements, you can stay connected with your loved ones over video calls. Besides, you can also consult a doctor online and avoid exposing yourself to coronavirus.

          • Keep Yourself Occupied

Since everyone is at home during the pandemic, it is the ideal time to restart your long-lost hobby. You may also start a new activity that you always wanted to do but could never find time for. This will keep you occupied and help keep any negative thoughts at bay.

          • Obey All Rules & Regulations

You must follow all rules and regulations that have been implemented by the government or your local authority. Your cooperation will not only keep you safe from coronavirus but also help in controlling the spread of COVID-19.

          • Show Empathy to People Around You

You must be empathetic to people around you who must be going through a hard time due to the pandemic. Help each other out and respect people performing essential services, such as doctors, police, etc.

      Don’ts of Social Distancing:

          • Don’t Go Out Unnecessarily

You are the safest from coronavirus if you stay at home. Thus, you should avoid going out of the house unnecessarily, especially in crowded places. Also, don’t visit places which are not medically necessary, such as the physiotherapy centres, salons, etc.

          • Don’t Have Physical Contact with People

If you have to meet people apart from your family, avoid any physical contact with them. Greet them with folded hands or wave at them but do not shake hands or hug them.

          • Don’t Touch Everything

If you are out for essential work, make sure to not touch everything. Keep your hands to yourself to avoid catching the coronavirus from a virus-infected surface or item.

          • Don’t Indulge in Panic Buying

Whenever you go out for grocery shopping, don’t buy more than you need fearing it won’t be available later. The government is ensuring that essential groceries are available everywhere. Moreover, your panic buying can mean no item is left for someone who needs it more than you.

          • Don’t Go for Vacations

The COVID-19 pandemic is still not in control and hence, you must avoid going for vacations during this time. This is because you have more chance of contracting COVID-19 in flights or at tourist places.

          • Don’t Let Children and Elderly Out of the House

Children and elderly people are more vulnerable to coronavirus and therefore, they should not be allowed to leave the house or meet other people.

          • Don’t Binge-Watch All Day

Staying at home does not mean you should watch TV or Netflix all day. Increase in daily screen time by spending too much time on your phone, laptop or TV can strain your eyes and weaken your eye muscle. Thus, you must limit the time you spend on binge-watching movies or TV series.

          • Don’t Believe Everything You Hear

Since COVID-19 is new to the world, a lot of rumours and fake news are doing rounds. Don’t believe everything you hear and always check the authenticity or source of the news before forwarding.

      Parting Words

COVID-19 is unlikely to vanish from the face of earth unless a vaccine is developed. With a COVID vaccine still months away from becoming a reality, there are only two things that you can do. First, get yourself and your family covered under a corona insurance policy. And second, strictly follow the do’s and don’ts of social distancing.
