What is the Process for NPS Registration?

Anyone who is a new NPS subscriber can easily register both online and offline as well. The website of NSDL permits individuals to access the process of online NPS registration.

NPS Registration through Online Method

To open the new NPS account, the following information needs to be provided in the NPS registration form:

  • Choose the NPS model that one needs to apply for that is the state government, central government, corporate or the private citizen.
  • Provide both personal and professional details such as the date of birth, address, contact details, income, educational qualification, etc.
  • Provide the bank account details such as the bank, account number, MICR code, IFSC code, and so forth.
  • One also needs to nominate and provide details of the nominee who will receive the sum in case of the subscriber's demise.
  • Anyone who wishes to open an account, choose for a tier-II account. The tier-I account will be opened by default with the NPS registration.
  • Select the pension fund manager. Currently, one can choose from eight options and has the option to select a fund manager.
  • Click on the ratio that one wishes to invest in different securities.

NPS Registration through Offline Method

Apart from the filled NPS registration form for the initial contribution to the nearby PoP or NSDL office a recent photograph, demand draft or cheque would be required. When the form is submitted offline with NSDL, a Permanent Retirement Account Number will be received. This PRAN will be the identity of the NPS account and would be required for each transaction completion related to the NPS scheme account.

Understanding the NPS Login

After the NPS account has been generated and a PRAN allocated, one can easily log-in to the e-NPS account via different channels that us via the NSDL NPS portal, via the KARVY portal or the internet banking account. Make sure to keep the NPS details handy.

Below is the stepwise guide that would enable to logging into the PRAN account.

Via NSDL NPS Portal

  • Visit the official website of the NSDL NPS.
  • Next, click on the ‘Open NPS Account/ Contribute Online’ icon.
  • Click on ‘Login with IPIN/PRAN’ and from there one will be taken to the log-in screen.
  • In the log-in screen enter the PRAN and password and then click on ‘Submit’ to access the e-NPS account. However, in the case when one is new a new password needs to be created by following the below-mentioned steps:
    • Visit the official website of the NSDL NPS.
    • Next, click on the ‘Open NPS Account/ Contribute Online’ icon.
    • Click on ‘Login with IPIN/PRAN’ and from there one will be taken to the log-in screen. Now, click on ‘Password for e-NPS’ and generate the new password.
    • Provide details such as the PRAN, birth date, new password and confirm the password and then enter the captcha. Once all the details have been duly entered click on ‘Submit’.
    • An OTP will be received on the registered mobile number. Enter the received OTP and confirm the new password.
    • Now, log-in to the e-NPS account using the PRAN and the new password.

Via Karvy NPS Portal

  • Visit the official website of the Karvy NPS.
  • Click on ‘Login for Existing Subscribers’.
  • In the log-in screen, enter the PRAN and password.
  • In case the log-in is for the first time, the following steps need to be followed:
    • On the screen login, click on’ Click Here to Generate’ link and reset the password.
    • Next, one needs to enter the PRAN, birth date and the Captcha. Then click on ‘Submit’ and OTP will be received on the mobile number registered.
    • Enter the OTP and then set the new password.
    • Once the new password is created the log-in to the e-NPS account.

Via Internet Banking

Some banks provide the facility of accessing the e-NPS account via net banking. One needs to log-in to the internet banking account, browse to the page of NPS and check the NPS details of the account.

One can make the contributions, select the schemes or perform the actions in regards to the NPS account via the internet banking screen.

  • Q:How to check the NPS account balance online?

    Ans: The National Pension Scheme provides both online and application facilities to check the account balance and the statement of transaction.

    Log in to the NPS account via the website of CRA. Submit the user-id and password.

    Once logged-in select the transaction statement and then the holding statement that gives the details of the accumulated balance in the NPS fund.

    Click on the transaction statement and further see the details of the transactions that include the contributions as well.

  • Q:How to change NPS account details?

    Ans: The subscriber can request for the correction/ change in the personal, nomination or bank details and reissue the T-PIN/I-PIN or the PRAN card to the POP-SP. The subscriber can also update the photograph/signatures by simply submitting a written request to POP-SP.

    For any change request the subscribers need to submit the listed below forms:

    • Form S7: Request for change in the photograph/ signature.
    • Form S3: Request for changes in the scheme preference, change/ switch of employment.
    • Form UOSS2: In case of any change in the personal or the nomination details or even request for the re-issue of I-PIN/T-PIN or PRAN card re-print.
    • The subscribers can update the details online or through the NPS mobile application.
  • Q:How to reset NPS Login Password?

    Ans: The subscriber can easily generate the password by following the below steps without even logging into the account:
      • Visit the home page of the NPS account log-in.
      • Next, click on the link ‘Forgot Password’.
      • Select the ‘Instant Reset I-PIN’.
      • Enter the required details such as the date of birth, PRAN, etc.
      • Now enter the new password.

    The subscribers need to select from any of the listed below options:

    • Go to the Nodal Office: The subscriber need to take a print of the acknowledgement and for authorization handover the same to an associated nodal office. Once it has been authorized successfully, then the subscriber can easily sue the new password, however, within the request initiation to log-in to the CRA system.
    • Generate OTP: Once the subscriber chooses this option, then the one-time password is sent to the mobile number registered or the email id of the subscriber. Once the same is received, the subscriber-only need to enter the sent OTP in the system.
  • Q:How do I get a user ID and password for NPS?

    Ans: The Permanent Retirement Account Number is the user id for the National Pension Scheme. To have the user id, an application form needs to be filled up the necessary details need to be provided and the form is to be submitted online/ offline along with the documents. Once the user id is generated, simply log-in to the online portal and likewise generate the password.
