10 Days in the UK Itinerary: Top Places to Visit

Depending on your flight length, energy and focus, you will probably be jetlagged after 10 hours of flight. If you have the energy, you can use the remaining day to casually take a stroll in the nearby areas, visit a famous cafe or pub for drinks.

Since London has some of the best highlights in the UK, you need at least 2 days for this city.

You can spend the remaining of your day and the second day visiting iconic sites like St. Paul's Cathedral, Windsor Castle, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Chelsea FC Stadium Tour and more.

Oxford is around one hour and half away from London, if you take a bus. This brilliant city is small but packed with stunning universities and historically significant landmarks. Don't forget to take a walking tour of the city before heading to the famous Turf Tavern, one of the oldest pubs in the area. If you have time, go on a walking tour across downtown, shop from the Covered Market and get a bird's eye view of the city from the iconic Carfax Tower.

Day 4 and Day 5 will cover the main highlights of Bristol; this port city is an hour long train ride away from Oxford so you can easily leave early morning soon after checking out from your hotel.

Here you will find Victorian landmarks like the Clifton Suspension Bridge, excellent museums and some of the best street arts in the UK. If you're into ships, don't forget to visit the SS Great Britain, the first ship in the world to have an iron hull along with a screw propeller.

Visitors coming during August can also attend the popular Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. After spending 2 days here, you can head to Liverpool.

Around 3 hours’ train ride from Bristol will take you to Liverpool, with a change at either Stafford or Birmingham. You can also take a bus to Liverpool but it will take about 5-6 hours. The northern parts of Britain is most famous for being the home of the Beatles.

Beatles fans will find a lot of things to do here, from visiting the Beatles Story Museum or heading to the historical Strawberry Field. However, there are more attractions here than the Beatles. You can visit the International Slavery Museum, the Tate Liverpool, or simply take a walk along the historical Albert Dock waterfront.

Around 3-4 hours’ train journey from Liverpool is the historical city of York, dating back to about 2,000 years. Founded by the Romans, this city is a perfect place for all history buffs who can't get enough of all things medieval.

You can easily cover the city highlights in a day and spend rest of your time taking in its gorgeous sights and food. These include the 13th century York Minster, National Railway Museum York, JORVIK Viking Centre, Shambles, and Clifford's Tower.

Don't forget to check the famous city walls, remnants from the Roman times during 12-14th centuries.

You can cross the Scottish borders from York by take either a 5-8 hours’ bus or a shorter train ride to Edinburgh. This stunning medival city has beautifully preserved its historical sites, the old cobble streets and of course, the iconic Scottish fashions!

You will easily find amazing whisky, beautiful tartan and melodious bagpipers almost everywhere you go. Make sure to visit the famous Edinburgh Castle and other royal sights. These include the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Holyrood Palace, and more. From Edinburgh, you can return to London via flight to catch your return flight to India.

Upon arrival, you can choose to take it easy for the rest of the day and visit nearby markets or cafes. If you have a major portion of the day left, you can head out and visit some of the most iconic places here.

For history and culture buffs, London is the place to start. Here you will spend considerable time seeing famous landmarks including the Trafalgar Square, the Piccadilly Circus, and the National Gallery Art Museum.

Second and third day will also be spent exploring must-visit sites in the UK, including the Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, and St. Paul's Cathedral. You should also allocate around 4-5 hours to visit the Windsor Castle, if you're into The Crown or British royalty in general.

A short 45 minutes’ train ride will take you to the historical university city of Cambridge, some 95 kilometres from the country capital. You can spend a day exploring the historical Cambridge University as well as a lot of award-winning wines at the Chilford Hall Vineyard. You should also visit the 11th century Ely Cathedral, known for its Norman Architecture. Other historically significant places here include the Holyrood Palace, famous for its 289 rooms.

Around 470 kilometres from Cambridge is the Scottish city of Edinburgh. Here you can book a day long guided tour to visit the stunning Edinburgh Castle. Built in the 12th century, this castle is famous for its Great Hall, and lavish Royal Apartments. You can also go to an exhibition of the Scottish Crown Jewels.

Harry Potter fans will love Edinburgh, for this is the place where Diagon Alley, the Leaky Cauldron and Gringotts are located. You can also visit the Sea Life Aquarium or head to Madame Tussauds.

From Edinburgh, you can travel to the famous Scottish Highlanders, as several 'Outlander' fans would know. If travelling with close friends, it offers a stunning drive and beautiful place for picnic. You can also opt for a mythical safari to Loch Ness.

You can either take an overnight train back or choose to spend your morning in covering any places that you may have missed. After that, you can head back to London to catch your flight back home.
