10 Days UK Itinerary On Budget Using Public Transport

This itinerary will take you across England, Scotland covering essential highlights. The best part is, you can follow this itinerary using bus or train and budget accordingly. This is often challenging as many places in the UK aren't accessible by public transport, so you need to take your pick.

  • Day 1: Arrival in London

    Depending on your flight length, energy and focus, you will probably be jetlagged after 10 hours of flight. If you have the energy, you can use the remaining day to casually take a stroll in the nearby areas, visit a famous cafe or pub for drinks.

  • Day 2: Explore London

    Since London has some of the best highlights in the UK, you need at least 2 days for this city.

  • Day 3: Train Ride to Oxford

    Oxford is around one hour and half away from London, if you take a bus. This brilliant city is small but packed with stunning universities and historically significant landmarks. If you have time, go on a walking tour across downtown, shop from the Covered Market and get a bird's eye view of the city from the iconic Carfax Tower.

  • Day 4 & 5: Head to Bristol

    Day 4 and Day 5 will cover the main highlights of Bristol; this port city is an hour long train ride away from Oxford so you can easily leave early morning soon after checking out from your hotel.

    Beatles fans will find a lot of things to do here, from visiting the Beatles Story Museum or heading to the historical Strawberry Field. However, there are more attractions here than the Beatles. You can visit the International Slavery Museum, the Tate Liverpool, or simply take a walk along the historical Albert Dock waterfront.

  • Day 8: Journey to York

    Around 3-4 hours’ train journey from Liverpool is the historical city of York, dating back to about 2,000 years. Founded by the Romans, this city is a perfect place for all history buffs who can't get enough of all things medieval.

    You can easily cover the city highlights in a day and spend rest of your time taking in its gorgeous sights and food. These include the 13th century York Minster, National Railway Museum York, JORVIK Viking Centre, Shambles, and Clifford's Tower.

    Don't forget to check the famous city walls, remnants from the Roman times during 12-14th centuries.

  • Day 9 & 10: Explore Edinburgh

    You can cross the Scottish borders from York by take either a 5-8 hours’ bus or a shorter train ride to Edinburgh. This stunning medival city has beautifully preserved its historical sites, the old cobble streets and of course, the iconic Scottish fashions!

    You will easily find amazing whisky, beautiful tartan and melodious bagpipers almost everywhere you go. Make sure to visit the famous Edinburgh Castle and other royal sights. These include the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Holyrood Palace, and more. From Edinburgh, you can return to London via flight to catch your return flight to India.

  • Day 7: Travel to Edinburgh

    Around 470 kilometres from Cambridge is the Scottish city of Edinburgh. Here you can book a day long guided tour to visit the stunning Edinburgh Castle. Built in the 12th century, this castle is famous for its Great Hall, and lavish Royal Apartments. You can also go to an exhibition of the Scottish Crown Jewels.

  • Day 8 & to Day 9: For Harry Potter & Outlander Fans!

    Harry Potter fans will love Edinburgh, for this is the place where Diagon Alley, the Leaky Cauldron and Gringotts are located. You can also visit the Sea Life Aquarium or head to Madame Tussauds.
