Further, there are two basic types of insurance policies that you can choose from:
1. Third-party Insurance: Cover only the damages to life and property of the other party involved in the accident with your car
2. Comprehensive insurance: Covers theft or damages of your own vehicle in addition to third-party coverage
While third-party insurance is mandatory under the Motor Vehicles Act, it is advisable third-party comprehensive coverage to secure yourself against financial losses incurred in case of a mishap with your vehicle. You will also need to purchase a personal accident cover of at least 15 lac as a legally mandatory cover if you do not already have a separate personal accident insurance policy.
