I had buyed used two wheeler, I don't transfer insurance to my name. My insurance is going to end in few days, but I Need to take new one in my name. So what's the procedure
Hi Narendran, the insurance policy can only be transferred in your name after the two-wheeler ownership has been transferred to you. If you and the seller of the bike reside in the same state, you need to submit an application for transfer of ownership with the RTO in which the two-wheeler was originally registered within two weeks of the purchase. If you and the seller reside in different states, then the application can be submitted within 45 days of the purchase.
You need to submit the following documents with the RTO for a transfer request:
1. Form 29 and Form 30
2. Registration certificate
3. Emission test papers
4. Insurance documents
5. Passport sized photographs
6. Any other documents requested by the RTO
After the vehicle has been transferred in your name, you will need to inform the insurance company within 15 days of the official transfer of ownership, requesting the transfer of the insurance policy. You will need to share the new RC, the previous insurance policy copy, both your and the previous owner's KYC documents along with the written request.
