Can hernia surgery of my baby covered in the insurance?
Hi Siddharth, thank you for reaching out to us. To be able to provide a specific answer to your query, we would need to know the age of your baby, what type of hernia it is and if your baby is covered under your health insurance policy. In general, there can be a couple of different scenarios here:
1. If you already have a family floater policy in which your child is included and hernia occured after the child's inclusion in the policy
- A waiting period of 2 years (in most policies) needs to be served before a claim can be made for treatment of hernia. This waiting period starts after the child's inclusion in the policy (typically a child can be included 90 days after birth)
2. If you already have a family floater policy in which your child is included and but hernia was congenital
- In this case you would have declared hernia as a pre-existing disease in case of the child. Here, a waiting period of 2-4 years needs to be served as per your plan details
3. You do not have health insurance policy for the child
- When buying an insurance, you will have to declare hernia as a pre-existing disease for the child and the insurer may choose to issue or not issue the policy based on their underwriting guidelines. If they do, a waiting period of 2-4 years will need to be served for treatment of hernia and its claim, as per the plan details
