Can I insure my own self and my parents under the same health insurance policy?
Certainly, Anjali. Thanks for reaching out. You can choose from a variety of health insurance policies from various insurers, including:
1. Individual health plans that are designed for a single person
2. Family floater health plans that cover your entire family under a single plan
3. Critical illness policies (usually available as add-on covers)
4. Corona -specific policies
There are also plans designed specifically for senior citizens.
However, do note most comprehensive health insurance policies (individual or family floater) provide cashless coverage across network hospitals, cover COVID-19 treatment costs, are available with no co-pay for people up to 60 years of age with no pre-existing diseases.
While some features may differ from plan to plan, some key terms and conditions for nearly all comprehensive health policies include:
1. All pre-existing diseases have to be declared at the time of submitting the proposal form to avoid rejection of claims in the future
2. The insurer may require you to go through tele- or physical medical tests based on your age and health condition
3. Across all health insurance policies, you will be required to serve certain waiting periods (the period within which you cannot make a claim for treatment of specified diseases). The waiting periods may differ slightly across plans.
