How do I port my existing policy to another insurer?
Hi Venkateswaran, we will be happy to help. In general, you can port your health insurance policy (irrespective of whether it is an individual policy or family floater) from one insurer to another only at the time of renewal. The process that needs to be followed is:
1. Write to your old insurer at least 45 days prior to the renewal date of your existing policy requesting a shift and specifying the name of the company you want to shift to
2. Apply to the new insurer with filled in portability form and proposal form at least 45 days prior to the renewal date of your existing policy
3. Ensure that there is no break in the policy, i.e., your due premium should be paid on or before the premium renewal date or within the 30 day grace period if the issuance is under process
Note the following:
1. If the new insurer does not respond with a decision at least 15 days prior to the date of renewal, they are bound to issue you a policy
2. The new insurer is required to give you credit for any waiting period you may have already served during your existing policy period
Meanwhile, we have arranged a callback for you from our insurance advisor. They shall reach out to you in the next 24 hours to assist with any specific question you may have.
