The New India Assurance Cyber Insurance is designed to provide comprehensive coverage against damages resulting from cyber risks. It covers the following:

Data Liability: It covers loss of personal and corporate data, breaches caused by outsourcers, and network security issues like data theft, denial of access, and malware or virus attacks.
Administrative Obligations. It includes legal fees incurred during regulatory investigations and fines imposed for breaches of data protection laws. It helps your business stay compliant and manage legal risks effectively.
Reputation and Response Costs: It covers forensic services to assess breaches, communication support for stakeholders, personal reputation repair, notification to data subjects and regulators, credit monitoring, and restoration of lost data when backups fail.
Optional Extensions: The policy offers added protection for risks such as legal claims from defamation or content misuse, ransom and investigation costs from cyber extortion.

Although the policy offers comprehensive coverage, it has some exclusions. Here is a list below:

Antitrust and unfair competition claims.
Physical injuries and property damage (except loss of third-party data).
Liabilities assumed under a contract unless legally mandatory.
Infringement of patents or trade secrets.
Distribution of spam or unsolicited materials.
Losses arising from war, terrorism (except cyber terrorism), and securities law violations.

Incident Reporting: Report the cyber incident immediately to New India Assurance through their website or helpline.
Provide Documentation: Submit the required documents, including FIRs, bank statements, screenshots, and any relevant proof of loss.
Claim Assessment: New India Assurance will verify the details and investigate the claim.
Approval and Settlement: Once validated, the claim is processed and settled in accordance with the policy terms.

New India Assurance Cyber Insurance: FAQs

1. Does the New India Assurance Cyber Insurance policy cover losses due to phishing or ransomware?

Ans: Yes, if the loss arises from a Qualifying Breach of Data Security or an Extortion Threat, it is covered.
2. Are third-party cloud systems included?

Ans: Yes, the definition of Computer System includes third-party platforms like IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS under a written contract.
3. What is not covered under network loss?

Ans: Network loss excludes legal costs, system upgrades, and loss from favourable business conditions or indirect causes
4. Can the insurer cancel the policy?

Ans: Yes, with a 30-day notice (or 10 days for non-payment), the insurer may cancel the policy.
