Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) was founded in October 1945 by JC Mahindra and KC Mahindra, along with another partner, Ghulam Mohammed. Initially into steel trading, M&M entered the automobile industry in 1947 by importing and assembling 75 Jeeps in its Mumbai unit from the United States.

Over the years, M&M has undergone many structural changes and has successfully rebranded itself as Mahindra. As the company continues to foray into different business sectors, including hospitality, education and finance, to name a few, the automobile section is now called Mahindra Auto.

About the Company

In 1964, M&M manufactured the first Mahindra Jeep in India, which got the unique distinction of being used by His Holiness Pope John Paul VI during his visit to Bombay on 3rd December 1964. In 2008, Mahindra started its automotive facility in Chakan, Pune.
In India, Mahindra Auto offers 13 variants in SUV and eSUV categories, including the popular Mahindra Thar, Thar Roxx, XUV 700, and the newly launched ones, BE 6 & XEV 9e, among others.
