Tips to Repair Minor Dents of Your Bike

Bike maintenance plays a vital role in keeping your new two-wheeler in the best shape. If it gets a minor dent, it is advised to remove it on your own or fix it during the servicing. However, if it has accidental damage rather instead of a minor scratch, then you must raise an insurance claim under your own damage (OD) cover in a bike insurance policy. A professional mechanic will remove the dent at the network garage, and the repair cost is covered by your two-wheeler insurance policy.

To remove the bike dent at home, follow the below given simple tricks-

  1. The first thing you can do is to use sand to fix the dent in your bike. Keep the bare metal inside the sand.
  2. Next, you should apply ‘Bondo’ to the dented area. A Bondo is a thick polyester body filler mixture that is used in automotive body repair.
  3. Mix the Bondo as per the instructions given in the user manual. Spread it using a plastic spreader smoothly all over the dent, so that there is no space left.
  4. Let the Bondo paste dry in the applied area. Then start sanding the dent using a grit of around 200 microns or you can increase the grits to a higher level, depending on the thickness of the paste.
  5. If the dent is deeper, you might have to repeat the entire process to get a perfect contoured result. A thick paste of Bondo and higher gritting intensity will give you excellent results.

Safety Tips to Keep Your Bike Dent-free

You might be the most careful person to keep your bike maintained and safe from dents. But some instances are out of your control, and they can affect your bike's appearance. Below are some common tips you can adopt to prevent dent repair-

  1. Purchase a Quality Cover

The worst-case scenario you cannot avoid is the dent caused by a hailstorm or falling branches during a storm. Therefore, it is advised to park your vehicle in the garage and must buy a quality cover to protect it from light, dust, or storms.

  2. Find the Right Parking Space

A right parking space can make a huge difference. A tight parking spot means you are opening doors for the dents. When you park your vehicle in public places, aim to place the right space between you and your neighboring vehicle. This is the best way to keep it safe.

  3. Remove the Broken Tool Kit Box

Check the tool kit attached to your vehicle. If the box is broken or open, it is advised to remove it, because the sharp objects present in it can cause scratches on your bike.

  4. Take Your Bike to Scheduled Servicing

Another important tip that two-wheeler owners usually ignore is bike servicing. It is recommended to take your bike for scheduled servicing. If the mechanic finds any scratches or dents, he will fix them and you don’t have to worry much.

  5. Buy Two-wheeler Insurance Policy

Removing a small dent is easy and affordable but what if your bike gets into an accident and is severely damaged, the cost to repair it might be huge. Therefore, it is advised to get yourself a comprehensive insurance policy to cover your own damages.

Moreover, do not forget to renew your bike insurance policy before the expiry date so you can easily settle own-damage claims without any stress.

Conclusion

Sometimes dents are unavoidable and expensive to repair. Before you take your bike to your local automobile repair shop, try the above-mentioned simple dent repair tricks at your home. If the dents are caused by accidental damage, you must raise a claim under your own damage (OD) cover in the bike insurance policy. If you do not have the right coverage, you can visit Policybazaar.com and find a suitable policy for your two-wheeler.
