8 Tips for Longer Battery Life of an E-bike

You might not be able to double the range of the e-bike's battery, but with these 8 tips you can increase the battery life of your e-bike-

  1. Always Use a Branded Charger Given By the Manufacturer

Always charge your e-bike's battery with its own charger given by the manufacturer. Using a different brand or the wrong charger might explode the battery or affect its performance. You might have to replace the battery before the average time, which can be quite expensive. Hence, your charging habits play a significant role in enhancing the life of the e-bike's battery.

  2. Charge Fully Before Leaving Home

Keeping the e-bike's battery fully charged before going out for a ride is the best way to extend its life. Do not drain the battery completely. Instead, keep it charged between 20-40%. However, it is hazardous to overcharge. It is advisable to remove the battery charger immediately once the battery is fully charged.

Another notable tip is- if you find that the battery takes more time to charge than earlier, Replace It.

  3. Avoid Sudden Acceleration

While riding your e-bike, you should avoid sudden acceleration as it adversely affects the battery's performance. Use speed control and slow down the speed for smooth acceleration while riding.

  4. Check Battery Capacity and Range

Usually, an e-scooter has lithium batteries that can hold a charge for longer hours. However, you must know the capacity to know how far your e-bike can run on a single charge.

The range of your electric two-wheeler depends upon several factors such as- the make & model, location, and battery size. You have to consider all these factors to make the right buying decision.

  5. Find a Safe Charging Station

There is a risk of fire explosion when you overcharge large lithium batteries. On a safer side, it is better to designate a place to charge your e-bike's battery. You may choose an empty garage floor or a separate room outside your home. Remember, the location should be dry and free from humidity.

  6. Read the User Manual

Another effective battery maintenance tip is to read the user manual before charging it. The manufacturer defines the maximum or average number of charge cycles for a particular battery. Moreover, warnings and directions to charge are mentioned it. Read it carefully for optimum results.

  7. Keep Your E-bike in the Right Temperature

E-bike battery performance depends on where you park the vehicle because extreme weather can swell up the battery. Here are the consequences of not keeping your EV in the right place-

    • Liquid leakage can cause explosions
    • Frozen electrolytes present in the batteries can cause short circuits

Therefore, keep your e-bike in the right place at an accurate temperature. As mentioned above, you can refer to the user manual to know the suitable temperature for parking an e-scooter.

Another crucial tip is to opt for comprehensive e-bike insurance to be compensated for own damage caused to the e-bike due to several unforeseen risks, including fire. Also, read the policy wording before buying it, so you do not miss any points.

  8. Carrying Capacity is Important

Carrying capacity refers to the maximum loading capacity of the vehicle, and it differs from model to model. You need to check the user manual of your e-bike model for load capacity. Eventually, overloading will damage its battery. Therefore, do not exceed the loading capacity.
