Illustrations for PNB Schemes

To understand how the final returns of the PNB special schemes are calculated, let’s look at the two interest calculation methods in detail for different schemes, starting from PNB 444 Days FD:

Illustration 1: PNB 444 Days FD

The PNB 444 Days FD is a special fixed deposit scheme that provides depositors with better returns for a short-to-medium tenure. With a lock-in period of just over one year, this scheme is designed for customers seeking attractive rates without committing funds for the long term.

Suppose a customer invests ₹1,00,000 in this scheme for 444 days. The PNB FD calculator 444 days 2025 will generate the returns with the following calculations in the backend:

Simple Interest Calculation (General Citizen, 6.40%):

SI = (1,00,000 × 6.40 × 1.22) / 100 = ₹7,785.21

Maturity Amount = ₹1,00,000 + ₹7,785.21 = ₹1,07,785.21

Compound Interest Calculation (Quarterly Compounding, 6.40%):

A = 1,00,000 (1 + 0.064/4)^(4 × 1.22)

A ≈ ₹1,08,029.68

Compound Interest = ₹1,08,029.68 – ₹1,00,000 = ₹8,029.68

Illustration 2: PNB Double Scheme

The PNB Double Scheme is a long-term fixed deposit plan to double the depositor’s money within a defined period. This scheme relies on the power of compounding over a long tenure, making it suitable for investors who can keep their funds locked in for several years to maximise growth.

Consider an investment of ₹1,00,000 under this scheme.

The deposit is invested for about 109 months, close to 9 years and 1 month, and is designed almost to double the initial amount.

For super senior citizens, the applicable rate is 6.65% per annum. At this rate, the maturity value on quarterly compounding works out to about ₹1.82 lakh .

Key Features of PNB Special FD Schemes

Punjab National Bank offers a set of special fixed deposit schemes, each designed with specific benefits and conditions. The main features include:

  • Specific Minimum Deposit: For most of the special schemes, PNB has a defined minimum deposit. For example, the minimum amount for the PNB Double Scheme is ₹5,000, with investments accepted in flexible multiples thereafter. The maximum deposit amount is generally kept below ₹10 crore.
  • Deposit Type: All special schemes are available in cumulative and non-cumulative FD options. Customers can reinvest the interest until maturity or opt for regular payouts depending on their financial needs.
  • Premature Withdrawal: PNB FD Premature withdrawal is allowed as per the terms and conditions of the scheme. The bank charges penalties of 0.50% to 1%, depending on the deposit amount and the FD scheme. Importantly, there is no penalty in case of deposits held by senior citizens, staff, or in the event of the depositor’s demise.
  • Loan and Overdraft Facility: Customers can avail Punjab National Bank loan against FD or overdrafts of up to 90% of the FD value. Tax-saving and capital gains FDs are excluded from the loan facility. So, this facility applies to regular and special deposits such as the 444-day, 666-day, and Palaash Green Deposit (1204-day and 1895-day) schemes.
  • Auto Renewal or Closure: Depending on customer instructions, deposits can be set for automatic renewal or closure on maturity.

Wrapping Up

PNB Special FD Schemes provide assured returns with distinct features and fixed tenures. The 444 Days FD suits short-term investors, the 666 Days FD fits medium-term goals, while the Palaash Green Deposit and Double Scheme cater to long-term investors. Current interest rates range from 5.85% to 7.25% per annum, with higher rates available for senior and super senior citizens. These schemes ensure flexible payouts, loan facilities, and auto-renewal, giving depositors a safe and predictable way to grow their savings.
