The following are the key features of the United India Insurance Commercial General Liability (CGL) policy:

Legal Liability Cover: The policy covers bodily injury or property damage to third parties on your premises or due to your business activities.
Defence Costs: It compensates for legal fees, claimant expenses, and representation costs during inquests and legal proceedings.
Cross-Liability Clause: The policy covers each insured party. It means directors or employees are likely to get separate coverage under the policy.
Claims-Made Basis: United India Insurance Commercial General Liability will cover a claim only if both the event and the actual claim happen during the time the insurance is active.

United Commercial General Liability Insurance Inclusions

The inclusions under United Commercial General Liability Insurance are:

Third-Party Bodily Injury: The policy covers your business against legal liability arising from death, bodily injury, illness, or disease to third parties.
Property Damage: It also extends coverage for actual and/or physical damage to third-party tangible property.
Legal Costs: United Commercial General Liability Insurance compensates for legal costs, fees, and expenses incurred in the investigation, defense, or settlement of any claim.
Claims Series Clause: If multiple bodily injuries or property damages are caused by the same underlying event, all such claims are treated as one under the policy.
Extended Notification: If you inform the company of a specific incident during the policy period that may lead to a claim in the future is covered, provided it is within the timeline as per your policy wordings.

United Commercial General Liability Insurance Exclusions

The following scenarios are not covered under the United Commercial General Liability Insurance:

Willful or Statutory Non-compliance: Any liability from intentional violation of laws is not covered.
Libel, Slander, Intellectual Property: The Commercial General Liability Insurance does not pay for personal injury, defamation or copyright infringement.
War, Nuclear, Communicable Diseases: No cover for war-related, nuclear perils, or communicable disease claims.
Injury to Employees: Workplace injuries to employees fall outside the extent of coverage. To add it, you can buy Workmen Compensation Insurance.
Retroactive Date: Injuries occurring before the policy's retroactive date are excluded from the policy.

United Commercial General Liability Insurance Claim Process

United Commercial General Liability Insurance follows a standardised process:

Prompt Notification: Inform United Insurance of any covered event or claim, in writing, as soon as possible.
Document Submission: Provide all relevant documents, claims, notices, evidence, statements, as requested by United Insurance.
Consent Before Action: Do not admit liability or make any settlement without the insurer's prior written approval.
Insurer’s Defence Rights: United Insurance may elect to defend or settle the claim at its discretion. Defense costs will count toward policy limits.
Deductible Settlement: You need to pay the agreed deductibles before indemnity disbursement.
Payment and Closure: Once processed, compensation is paid, and if limits are exhausted, United Insurance may cease defense or settlement.

1. What is the retroactive date?

Ans: The retroactive date refers to the start of your policy. Liabilities before this date are excluded from the policy
2. Are subcontractors covered?

Ans: Injuries caused by subcontractors are covered only if explicit coverage is extended towards subcontractor liability in the policy.
3. Does United Commercial General Liability Insurance cover employee injuries?

Ans: No, injuries to employees are not covered under Commercial General Liability Insurance. To get coverage against them, the employer has to opt for a dedicated Workmen Compensation Policy.
