Types of Karnataka Bank Education Loan Schemes

The Karnataka Bank offers education loan options for higher studies and skill development. The eligibility, loan limits and terms vary by scheme.

  • KBL PEAK Education Loan: Allows students to finance higher education in India and abroad. It covers expenses such as tuition fees, accommodation, travel, books and laptops. The loan amount can go up to ₹2 crore, including unsecured financing of up to ₹40 lakh. Interest rates may vary based on factors such as the educational institution’s ranking and the co-applicant’s credit score. A concession may be available for female students pursuing STEM courses.
  • KBL Skill Loan: Intended for eligible vocational and skill development courses. Loans are subject to the bank’s scheme conditions, including eligible courses and applicable credit-guarantee coverage. Applicants should confirm the current loan limit and interest rate with Karnataka Bank.
  • KBL PM Vidyalaxmi: The students can explore this education loan option through Karnataka Bank, subject to the scheme’s eligibility requirements. The applicable loan amount, collateral requirements and interest rate should be confirmed from the bank’s current terms.

A child education plan in parallel with a loan helps parents plan ahead for course fees and building a corpus.

Margin and Collateral Requirements

Margin and collateral requirements vary by education-loan scheme, loan amount and the applicant’s circumstances. KBL PEAK Education Loan supports higher studies in India and abroad, with financing of up to ₹2 crore. The applicants should confirm the required margin, security and co-applicant conditions with Karnataka Bank before applying.

The applicable margin and security requirements should be checked against the current scheme terms for KBL Skill Loan and the Vidyalaxmi Scheme. The eligibility for any credit-guarantee or collateral-free facility is subject to the relevant scheme conditions and the bank’s assessment.

Documents Required for Karnataka Bank Education Loan

The documents required depend on the loan scheme, course and place of study. Applicants may need to submit the following.

  • Aadhaar, PAN and address proof, as applicable, for the student and co-applicant.
  • Previous mark sheets, including Class X, Class XII or the last qualifying examination, as applicable.
  • Admission letter or proof of admission, the institution’s fee structure and schedule of course expenses.
  • Income proof and relevant financial documents of the parent or co-applicant, where required.
  • Passport, admission documents and any visa or language-test documents required for the course or by the bank.

How to Apply for a Karnataka Bank Education Loan

The applicants can contact a Karnataka Bank branch to confirm the application process for the relevant education loan scheme.

  • Review the eligibility criteria, loan limits and terms for KBL PEAK Education Loan, KBL Skill Loan or the Vidyalaxmi Scheme.
  • Keep the required identity, academic, admission and fee documents ready along with co-applicant and income documents where applicable.
  • The student can apply through the Karnataka Bank specified channel for the selected scheme and provide the required information and documents.
  • The bank assesses the application and may request additional information before making a lending decision.
  • After sanction, the amount is disbursed against the fee requirements of the institution, and the student can operate the loan through a Karnataka Bank savings account.

Repayment Tenure and Moratorium Period

Repayment tenure and the moratorium period depend on the education-loan scheme. The loan can be repaid over up to 15 years, excluding the moratorium period, which covers the course duration plus one year under PM-Vidyalaxmi. The applicants should confirm the applicable repayment schedule for KBL PEAK Education Loan and the KBL Skill Loan with Karnataka Bank.

The eligible students pursuing professional or technical courses in India may receive full interest subsidy during the moratorium under the Central Sector Interest Subsidy Scheme (CSIS). The eligibility includes an annual family income of up to ₹4.5 lakh and an eligible education loan of up to ₹10 lakh, subject to the scheme’s institution and course requirements.
