About These Courses

Maharashtra State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) under the Department of Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, extends support to the Government of Maharashtra in imparting practical education and skills development. In association with specialized Sector Skill Councils such as the Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI), the state conducts relevant training programmes for the jewellery industry.

Training and Certification Process

The National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) serves as the benchmark for Maharashtra gems and jewellery skill courses developed by the GJSCI. Training is conducted through occupational standards approved by the industry, involving classroom sessions, hands-on work sessions, and testing. To ensure that the students are trained on skills that are relevant in the job market, the GJSCI facilitates initiatives such as Recognition of Prior Learning (a Skill India initiative that assesses and certifies the existing skills of individuals who have gained experience through work but may not have received formal training), apprenticeship programmes, teacher training, and Centres of Excellence.

Note: Not all learners are “certified” by the government. Only individuals who clear the test are awarded a certification from the relevant Sector Skill Council (GJSCI) through the NCVET/Skill India system.

Eligibility Criteria

There are certain prerequisites that individuals must fulfill if they wish to enroll in Maharashtra Gems and Jewellery Skill Courses. These include a Qualification Pack (QP), as well as the skills development scheme approved by the government, within which the course is offered. Typical prerequisites include:
