Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM KUSUM) is a scheme launched by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy MNRE in 2019. This flagship scheme aims to increase and promote the use of solar energy in agriculture. The PM Kusum scheme is designed to provide the farmers with reliable energy resources to ease irrigation and other related activities. The Pradhanmantri KUSUM Yojana provides up to a 60% subsidy to install solar pumps and become electricity producers focusing on lowering the reliance on electricity- and diesel-powered mechanisms.
The KUSUM Scheme has 3 components with different features:
Component A: Installation of decentralized, grid-connected solar power plants (up to 500 kW–2 MW capacity).
Component B: Installation of standalone solar pumps (up to 7.5 HP capacity).
Component C: Solarisation of existing grid-connected agricultural pumps (up to 7.5 HP).

The funding pattern and subsidies of the PM KUSUM scheme are: 60% subsidy (30% central + 30% state), 30% loan (optional), and 10% farmer contribution.

The PM Kisan Urja Suraksha, or the PM KUSUM Solar Pump Yojana, was introduced to drive the adoption of solar energy solutions in agriculture by providing solar pumps and grid-connected systems.
