How to Calculate Educational Loan EMI?

Manual EMI calculation uses this formula for use:

The EMI for an education loan is calculated using the formula:
EMI = P X R X (1 + R) n/(1 + R) n - 1
Terms used in SIP Calculator
P
Principal loan amount
R
Monthly interest rate (annual rate divided by 12 and converted to decimal)
n
Loan tenure in months

Where:

P = Loan amount

R = Monthly interest rate = Annual rate/12/100

N = No. of months for the loan.

The loan amount is ₹5,00,000, the interest rate is 10 per cent per annum and the loan tenure is 5 years (60 months).

Then R = 10 ÷ 12 ÷ 100 = 0.00833 and N = 60.

By putting the values into the formula, EMI = 5,00,000 × 0.00833 × (1.00833)^60 ÷ ((1.00833)^60 − 1).

Once calculated, the EMI comes out to be around ₹10,625 each month.

FAQs

  • Is there any option for me to compare different loans using the calculator?

    This calculator lets you change the principal, interest rate, and period multiple times to compare different loans. This calculator will help you identify the best EMI scheme which fits into your budget and enables you to know the effect of even minor variations on the EMI and overall loan cost.
  • How is the EMI at Punjab National Bank calculated?

    The calculation of the EMI is done depending upon the loan amount, interest rate, and tenure available in the calculator. It is worth noting that the final EMI can vary due to changing interest rates, loan eligibility terms, and the disbursement period, as per the bank’s norms.
  • Will the moratorium period be included in the calculator?

    The EMI is not displayed in the calculator till repayment period begins. Most of the time, the repayment time for Punjab National Bank education loan starts at the end of the course and then a year later (known as the moratorium period), but may also include some interest during this period.
  • Can I modify the tenure during calculation?

    The loan tenure can be modified while using the calculator. With an increase in tenure, the EMI decreases, although it leads to a high cost of interest. On the contrary, a decrease in tenure results in an increase in EMI, with reduced interest costs.
