How to Use the State Bank of India Education Loan Calculator?

State Bank of India (SBI) Education Loan Calculator helps you calculate how much your education loan is going to cost you in terms of monthly EMI by the input of several factors like loan amount, interest rate, and the repayment period. Some rules on using the calculator:

  • Loan Amount: The amount that you wish to borrow for educational purposes is mentioned here.
  • Tenure: Choose the tenure. The longer the duration, the lesser your monthly EMI, however, the higher the interest paid off. Your EMI will be more if you select a short period of time, but the interest you pay will be less.
  • Interest Rate: Type in the annual interest rate that needs to be paid.
  • See Outcome: The EMI calculator will calculate the EMI for your monthly payments from the process as soon as you are done with it.

How Does the State Bank of India Education Loan Calculator Help You?

The SBI Education Loan Calculator is a valuable tool that can aid you in comprehending your loan EMIs prior to taking the loan. It works on the same principles as the education loan EMI calculator, which calculates the EMI amount. A few of the important ways in which it can help you are explained below:

  • Exact EMI Calculation: The SBI education loan EMI calculator will provide you with an exact calculation of the EMI based on the details you feed in the form of loan amount, interest rate and tenure.
  • Education loan calculator: SBI is useful to choose the appropriate tenure as after the moratorium period of up to 15 years from the education loan sanctioned by SBI, the long repayment period makes it easy to take out loans.
  • Loan Comparison: You can use the SBI education loan EMI calculator multiple times, by altering the loan amount, loan tenure and interest rate to compare the different types of loans available and select the one that is most suitable for you.

  • Impact of Interest Rates: SBI education loans come with a variable interest rate, which is linked to benchmark interest rates. The EMI calculator will help you understand how a small change in the interest rate affects your EMI.
  • Time-Saving Feature: The manual calculation of the EMI value using the formula can be rather cumbersome. This calculator can provide you with the correct answer in no time.
  • Preparation Period before Moratorium Ends: SBI provides moratorium period to its customers equal to the duration of the course and one year also where they do not have to pay EMI. This tool can be used to calculate the payments on the best child plan from which you pay EMI.

How to Calculate Educational Loan EMI?

EMI consists of two components: the principal amount and the interest.

The EMI for an education loan is calculated using the formula:
EMI = P X R X (1 + R) n/(1 + R) n - 1
Terms used in SIP Calculator
P
Principal loan amount
R
Monthly interest rate (annual rate divided by 12 and converted to decimal)
n
Loan tenure in months

Example

It can be comprehended with just an illustration:

  • Loan Amount (P) = ₹10,00,000
  • Rate of Interest = 10% p.a.
  • Loan Tenure = 10 years (120 months)

Calculate the monthly interest rate (first convert the annual interest rate to a monthly rate).

  • Monthly interest rate (R) = 10 ÷ 12 ÷ 100 = 0.0083

Now, let's find the value in the EMI formula:

  • P = 10,00,000
  • R = 0.0083
  • n = 120

This formula will help you to calculate the interest on the whole amount in equal instalments. Using the formula above, the EMI works out to approximately ₹13,215 per month.

Final Thoughts

The Education Loan Calculator is an online tool developed by the State Bank of India that allows you to view the education loan EMI, the interest to be paid, and the total loan payment. The calculator will also assist in educational loan planning and facilitate comparison of different types of loans, paving the way for easier and more efficient borrowing.
