How Can I Check Vehicle Owner Registration Details in Parivahan Online?

The procedure to find vehicle owner details online is easy and simple. The Government of India has introduced a central vehicle registry known as VAHAN. This web portal is a central database that holds around 28 crore vehicle data or information.

The primary objective of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is to centralise all the information related to the vehicle registration certificates and driving licenses that can be derived from the RTO and DTOs.

Here is a step-by-step guide to find vehicle registration details online through the VAHAN:

Step 1: To find the vehicle owner's name, visit the website of VAHAN\

Step 2: At the top navigation menu of the page, click on 'Know Your Vehicle Details

Step 3: On the next page, enter the vehicle registration number of the car or bike to extract the details

Step 4: Pass the human verification by entering the captcha code and click on 'Search Vehicle'

Step 5: The vehicle owner details will be on the displayed page. Note them for your convenience.

By completing the above steps, you will be redirected to a new page. There you can view different types of other details. Below is the list you can find-

How Can I Check Vehicle Owner Registration Details in Parivahan Via SMS?

To find the RTO vehicle details without using the internet, the government has offered an option to fetch details via SMS. Follow the below steps and find out the details-

Step 1: Enter VAHAN <space> Vehicle Registration Number (Example- VAHAN PB01A8433)

Step 2: Next send this as an SMS to 7738299899.

After completing the above procedure, you will receive the complete details of the vehicle owner. It also includes other information such as make & model, RTO details, RC expiry details, PUC Certificate details, car/bike insurance policy details, etc.

Why Do You Need VAHAN Web Portal?

Like the rest of the world, India is facing an intensely debating population explosion. Also, thousands of vehicles are being registered daily. Therefore, it is very difficult to trace the vehicle details.

Here are the top reasons why you need the VAHAN-

  1. Hit and Run Case

Finding a vehicle owner's details during a hit-and-run case is a challenge. With the help of VAHAN, you can easily track the vehicle owner's details with the help of the registration number (number plate details).

  2. Accident

In case of a road mishap, your vehicle might get damaged by a third party. In such circumstances, you can track the vehicle owner's details of the third party using the registration number.

However, as a vehicle owner, it is mandatory to have at least third-party liabilities insurance in India. Filing a claim for accidental damages against the third party and getting compensated with the right claim amount under your insurance plan is easy.

  3. While Buying a Second-hand Vehicle

You must check the vehicle owner's details via VAHAN if you are buying a used vehicle directly from the owner or through a dealer. This guarantees the authenticity & genuineness of the vehicle & its owner.

  4. No Objection Certificate (NOC)

Using VAHAN, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials can access the vehicle data through a centralised database for vehicle registration certificates. Therefore, there is no need to present the NOC of your vehicle.

Final Words

You can easily visit the official website of VAHAN and get the required details of the vehicle owner by registration number. VAHAN database includes the information from RTOs and DTOs. Therefore, you can search for the details from any state or Union Territories (UT).

However, to protect the personal information of the vehicle owner, the address is not on the VAHAN portal online. So, if you are searching for the home address of the vehicle owner, it is not available on VAHAN.
