All bike insurance policies come with an expiry date. Most of the bike insurance policies come with one-year validity. The policyholder must renew the policy before the expiration date.

If you have recently purchased a bike then you must purchase a two-wheeler insurance policy. Although there are policies with 1 to 3 years of tenure, the policyholder can purchase according to their requirement. It is advised to renew the policy on time and let us tell you why?

Why Bike Insurance Policies Should be Renewed before Expiration?

The insurance company will not provide you cover if you do not renew your policy before expiration. There are several complications if you do not renew your policy on time. Here are those complications:

Violation Leads to Penalty

As you know that covering your bike with an insurance policy is mandatory and if the policy expires and you do not renew it on time then it comes under the violation of the motor vehicle law. The penalty for not carrying a valid insurance policy in India is Rs. 2000 and/or 3 months of imprisonment, community service, if you commit the same violation for the second time then you will be fined Rs. 4000.

Rejection of Claim

If you do not renew your policy on time then the insurance company can reject your raised claim. The insurance company will not cover the third-party liability in case of damage or loss caused in an accident. You will have to pay for the damage or loss out of pocket. The whole purpose of the insurance policy will be lost.

Higher Premium Rate on Renewal Post Expiry

If the bike insurance policy has lapsed and the insurance company agrees to renew the policy then they will charge you with higher premium rates after witnessing your carelessness. Apart from this, the insurer will also inspect your bike for the damage, you will have to a higher amount when they will renew the policy.

Loss of NCB

NCB stands for No Claim Bonus. It is an added benefit and provides you a certain percentage of saving on your premium rate on renewal for every consecutive year only if the policyholder does not raise a claim.
