What is PUCC in Bike?

A Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate is a document that certifies your two-wheeler to be following and under the pollution rules. The Government of India (GOI) issues the certificate after testing the emission levels of the two-wheeler. You can get your two-wheeler tested to check the levels at any government authorized emission testing centers. Usually, these centers are located at petrol pumps in your city.

The PUC certificate contains some significant information such as-

  • The serial number of PUCC
  • PUC test validity date
  • Registration number of your bike/scooter
  • The date of the emission test

Importance of PUC for New Bikes

A PUC certificate for a new bike should be as per the Motor Vehicle Act. The validity of PUCC for new bikes stands at 1 year. Once it crosses that period, the PUC certificate is renewed for a validity of 6 months.

You can refer to the below reasons why you should obtain a PUCC for a new bike-

  • As per the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, it is mandatory to carry a PUC certificate while riding a two-wheeler on the roads
  • Moreover, as per the IRDAI, the bike insurance renewal demands an updated PUC certificate from the policyholder.

Why is The PUC Test Necessary?

It is mandatory to get your two-wheeler emission level tested and carry the PUC certificate with you every time you are riding on the road. Omitting to carry the document would lead to a submit a heavy fine.

  • Once you find the PUC center, take your two-wheeler there and get it tested by the mechanic. They will insert the emission testing tube into the exhaust pipe of the bike to check the emission levels
