Mumbai’s Traffic Police & their Digital Presence

We have been hearing this for a while through television and movies that Mumbai’s traffic is one of the densest in the country. As the number of vehicles rises every other day, the citizens of the city also have lots of complaints regarding the bad traffic and roads. Even though Mumbai runs on local trains, the metro construction has narrowed down the roads. Bad traffic on road leads to many road accidents and this is why having a two-wheeler insurance policy is beneficial as well as mandatory by the Indian Government.

It is not an easy task t maintain the traffic of Mumbai since there is a flow of 27 lakh vehicles on a daily basis. Since it can not be maintained manually, it is monitored by the Mumbai traffic police digitally. And they got a pretty good digital presence from controlling the traffic signals to monitoring the traffic rule violators and everything else. As we all have been to the place where we violate the traffic rules like jumping the red light that can turn into a severe accident, Mumbai traffic police make sure that the violator gets penalized so that he/she does not try and violate the traffic rule again.

Apart from this the inadequate parking space and many kinds of violations are faced by around 3400 traffic police personnel in Mumbai. They put their time, energy and sweat into performing their jobs and technology plays a vital role in helping them with it. Website and mobile app of Mumbai traffic control is there and provide genuine information to citizens related to rules and regulations and all kinds of updates.  Let us have a look at how good is their digital presence?

E-Challan

E-challan has made it very easy for the traffic police of Mumbai as they do not have to put a challan to any traffic violator manually. For example, when a car or a bike jumps the red light or stands ahead of the zebra crossing the camera’s fitted on the signals captures their number plate and the challan is sent to the violator’s home directly as well as to their email ID and phone number. Also, it is a convenient way of paying the challan for the violator as he/she can login to the traffic police website with their registration number and simply pay the amount online.

Fines According to Violation

Since it is not easy for the citizens to remember the amount of fine for any particular violation like triple sitting and causing obstruction in a free-flowing road or jumping the red light. Their mobile app provides all kinds of information including the fines. There is a separate section that shows you the instances where you can be fined and the amount as well. For example, for continuously honking, you can be fined Rs. 200 under section 21(1) RRR/177 of the motor vehicle act.

Paid Parking

It must have happened with everyone who owns a car or bike. Parking a car at “No parking area” can cause you a lot of trouble. It can be towed away by the traffic police and you will have to go there on your own and then pay the fine to get it back. With the help of their mobile app you can even find a place where you can park your car and pay a minimum amount for it. You can also check the places with no parking spots.

How to Find Towed Vehicle

As mentioned above that parking your car or bike in a “no parking area” can get you in a lot of trouble as you will have to go there on your own but where your vehicle has been towed away is easy to find as the mobile application provided by the Mumbai traffic police can help your find your vehicle. You will have to enter your vehicle number and it will direct you to that place.

Get Traffic Updates on Mobile

Mumbai traffic police update the traffic status on their website and app. In case of any major traffic alert, they would send an SMS to everyone around the area. The platform also provides information and tips related to traffic and following rules as well as consequences. Apart from this, their social media handles are also updated and provide information through posting pictures and written statuses as everybody now a days stays on their social media handles.

Conclusion

Be it Mumbai or any other city’s traffic police, they put a lot of sweat and hard work into performing their duties also, it is our duty also as a citizen of the city that we abide by the rules of law. They are made for our own safety. Also, Purchasing two wheeler insurance or third-party liability insurance is necessary that can protect you against any damage or loss caused by an accident.
