Who would you like to insure?
Star Health Insurance has introduced Star Cardiac Care Platinum Insurance and Star Cancer Care Insurance plans at the beginning of September 2021. While the Cardiac Care plan is designed to cover cardiac patients, the Cancer Care plan is exclusively available to people diagnosed with cancer. The new variant offers a higher sum insured to people i.e. up to Rs 10 lakh in case of Cancer Care and up to Rs 15 lakh in case of Cardiac Care plan.
While the Star Cancer Care plan was previously available in the Gold variant only, the Star Cardiac Care plan was available in both Silver and Gold variants. Although there are no changes to the eligibility criteria of the Cancer Care plan, the Platinum variant of the Cardiac Care plan is available to people aged 7 years to 70 years.
The Star Cancer Care Platinum Insurance policy continues to cover hospitalization expenses, day care treatments as well as ambulance charges. But unlike previous covers, it also covers the cost of Hospice Care, health check-ups and second medical opinion. However, the lump sum cover for cancer recurrence, second malignancy and metastasis is now an optional cover.
Similarly, the Star Cardiac Care Platinum Insurance policy provides coverage for in-patient, pre and post-hospitalization expenses, ambulance charges, day care procedures, OPD expenses and modern treatments. While the personal accident cover is no longer available in the policy, the cost of heart transplantation and conventional coronary angiogram tests is now covered.
Just like the existing variants of these specialized health insurance plans, the Star Cardiac Care Platinum Insurance policy and Star Cancer Care Platinum Insurance policy does not require any pre-policy medical test. However, policyholders are expected to disclose pre-existing diseases and submit the medical records of any treatments taken previously while buying the policy.
The waiting periods for the Platinum variant under both plans remain the same as in the existing variants. Thus, the cancer-related claims are covered after a waiting period of 30 months under the Cancer Care Platinum plan and heart ailments are covered after a 48 months waiting period under the Cardiac Care Platinum plan.
Moreover, the premiums for the plans can be paid in annual, half-yearly and quarterly instalments. Policyholders can also renew their policies.
