How is Star Health Insurance Premium Calculated?

Medical insurance premium is the amount that is paid every year to avail the benefits of a health insurance policy. The prices are determined by taking into consideration a few factors such as location, medical history of your family, pre-existing illness, age, gender etc. Star health insurance premium is calculated on the basis of the following factors:

Type of Health Insurance Policy

The insurance premium largely depends on the policy and the coverage type. Like the premium for a critical illness policy will be on a higher side in comparison to individual and a family floater plan. A family floater plan would also cost more as the number of insured members increases. But Star health insurance offers a discount on premium for purchasing a policy for more than two members.

Sum Assured Amount

The coverage amount also decides the premium cost of a star health insurance policy. The higher the sum assured amount the higher will be the premium.

Age of the Insured

Another important deciding factor is the age of the eldest insured member or the main policy. And young applicants are always charged a lesser premium because they are less likely to file a claim due to an underlying health  condition.

Number of family members included

The number of family members that are covered in a plan also helps in deciding the premium. Star health insurance family floater plans allow to include a maximum of 4/5/6 members under a single plan, and the premium is decided on the number of the members that are covered.

*All savings are provided by the insurer as per the IRDAI approved insurance plan. Standard T&C apply.
