You can compare different health insurance quotes by altering these factors and check the suitability along with the premium. Quickly check out the factors listed below and make an informed decision:

      Type of Star Insurance Policy

One of the preliminary factors in deciding the type of insurance based on your requirement. It means deciding if you want individual health insurance, group health insurance, family health insurance, cancer insurance, senior citizen insurance, top-up health plan or a COVID-19 medical insurance policy.

If you want insurance cover for yourself then you can look for Star MediClassic health plan. In future when your responsibilities grow you can get your spouse and children also covered under the same plan. The coverage offered in an individual star health plan is more in comparison to a family floater policy, but the premium is slightly on the higher side.

If you have a joint family and want everyone to get covered under the same plan then you can consider buying Star family health optima and star comprehensive health plan. Moreover, you can get the critical illness as a rider benefit. And if you already have insurance and want to upgrade the sum insured then you can opt for Star surplus top-up insurance policy. And for your parents, you can buy Star health Red Carpet Insurance policy. In addition to this, the insurer also provides medical insurance cover to autistic children.

      Star Health Insurance Premium

The premium is based on a number of factors like the type of policy, age of the policyholder or the family members. The premium for senior citizen health plans is higher in comparison to an individual or family floater health plan. Moreover, if you a family floater policy for 4 members and buy a policy on individuals basis then the premium will be higher in the latter case. And for add-on covers the premium again is on the higher side. Though the premium for COVID-19 health plans is quite low as it is a specific type of health plan

Premium is an important factor to consider, but do not just buy a policy because it’s cheaper. Buy a policy that matches both your budget and health insurance requirements of the ones you want to insure.

      Entry Age Criteria

The eligibility criterion in most of the star health insurance plans is 18 years to 65 years. However, it makes sense to check the policy brochure for the same. The entry age for Star health Red Carpet plan is 60 years and above and for Star MediClassic policy the entry age is 5 months.  Check both the minimum and maximum age as some plans have no limit on exit age and provide lifetime renewal provision.

      Sum Insured Amount

Star health insurance plans offer a range of sum insured options from Rs 1 Lakh to Rs 1 Crore. You can pick the sum insured amount that seems adequate for you and your family as per the premium paying ability. Considering the rate of inflation and COVID-19 pandemic, it makes sense to buy a health insurance policy of at least Rs 10 lakh and above to help you meet the medical costs. So, opt for an adequate coverage amount while selecting a Star health insurance plan online for yourself and your loved ones.

      Pre-existing Illnesses

Check for the pre-existing illness clause and the waiting period applicable to the chosen Star health insurance plan. So, if you are suffering from any health condition like blood pressure, its related illnesses will only be covered after the completion of a waiting period like 2 years, 3 years or 4 years depending on the plan that you have purchased. For example, Star Red Carpet Insurance policy covers pre-existing illnesses after 2-years of the policy term.  Make sure, that the Star health plan covers that you have chosen covers those ailments that you may have and continue to cover in the long run or at least for a few years of the policy.

      Sub-limits

Sub-limits refer to the capping that the insurer puts on the claim reimbursement amount. Some Star Health Insurance plans may have a room rent capping. For example, Senior Citizens Red Carpet Health Insurance Policy has certain sub-limits on specific illness and diseases as mentioned in the policy wordings. Do check them before buying it.

      Critical Illness Cover

It can be a stressful time for anyone, if any, of the family members is diagnosed with critical illnesses like cancer, tumor, or stroke.  To save yourself and your family from financial turmoil, you can look at Star health Criticare plus insurance policy. The insurer offers reimbursement and also compensates the lump sum amount once you are diagnosed with any life-threatening disease as mentioned in the policy documents. It will compensate for specified critical illnesses and surgical procedures as per the policy terms. Compensation is provided for hospitalization, surgeries and the treatment of critical illness.  Life-threatening diseases such as open-heart surgeries, cancer, paralysis, organ transplant, kidney failure, and other serious ailments would be covered.

      Co-payment

A co-pay or co-payment is a clause under which you have to pay a certain percentage of the claim amount. For instance, in Star Comprehensive Health Insurance plans the co-payment of 30% applies to applicants above the age of 60 years. And in case of pre-existing conditions co-pay of 50% is applicable. Before choosing a plan, make sure you have checked out the co-payment clause.
