Mr.Gupta bought a health insurance plan with a cover of Rs.1Lakh. He ensured that he has a critical illness rider along with this. A few months later he contracted dengue and was hospitalized. He incurred expenses of about Rs.60, 000. The insurer only covered Rs.40, 000 of this amount, which were in-patient treatment. The remaining outpatient charges of Rs.25, 000 has to be borne by him from his pocket.

Though the critical illness rider does cover 10-15 different diseases, in the above situation, a single-disease policy may have worked in his favor.

What is a single-disease cover plan?

A single-disease cover plan offers comprehensive coverage for a specific disease and serves as an add-on cover for regular health insurance policies. Single disease cover plans are uncomplicated products, where the customer has to pay a single premium without any complex underwriting. These plans do not require any tests. All one needs to do is fill up a form and a self-declaration of not having any pre-existing diseases.
