Mission Indradhanush provides all vaccines under UIP to pregnant women and children as per the national immunization schedule. It is also one of the flagship schemes under the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan and the Extended Gram Swaraj Abhiyan that covers 16,850 villages across 541 districts and 48,929 villages across 112 aspirational districts respectively.
So far, 701 districts in India have been covered under the 10 phases of the Mission Indradhanush. As of April 2021, about 96.8 lakh pregnant women and 3.86 crore children have been vaccinated during various phases of the campaign.
The Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0 campaign will actively work towards filling the gaps in immunization due to the COVID-19 pandemic by providing routine immunization services to unvaccinated and partially vaccinated beneficiaries. This will be done in 416 districts across the country in three rounds, including 75 districts identified for Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The districts to be covered under IMI 4.0 have been identified based on the latest National Family Health Survey-5 report and Health Management Information System (HMIS) data on vaccination coverage.
In the virtual launch of the campaign, Dr Mandaviya also launched the campaign portal and released its Operational Guidelines. He also released a handbook for Mahila Arogya Samiti on Urban Immunization, Strengthening Immunization in Urban Areas – A Framework for Action and the IEC package/awareness material.
Dr Mandaviya also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visioned Mission Indradhanush to be a universal vaccination, which is accessible and received by all pregnant women and children. He also that PM Modi wants the vaccination to be at 90 per cent.
