How Senior Citizens can File Cashless Claims?

Cashless health insurance claims allow senior citizens to receive medical treatment without paying the entire hospital bill upfront. In this type of claim, the insurer pays the eligible medical expenses of the insured directly to the network hospital, making the process simpler and faster. However, to raise a cashless claim under senior citizen health insurance, the policyholder has to follow certain steps laid out by the insurer.

Steps to File a Cashless Health Insurance Claim for Senior Citizens

Senior citizens can follow the steps below to file a cashless health insurance claim:

      1. Choose a Network Hospital

To file a claim under health insurance for senior citizens, the first step is to get admitted to a hospital that is preferably part of your insurer's network. However, you can avail a cashless treatment at any hospital of your choice with the Cashless Everywhere benefit.

      2. Inform the Insurance Provider

Inform your health insurance company or Third-Party Administrator (TPA) about your hospitalisation within 48 hours of an emergency and at least 48 hours before a planned hospitalisation.

      3. Submit the Required Documents

At the hospital or TPA desk, submit the required documents, including your health insurance policy, health card and a valid identity proof, as requested by the hospital or insurer.

      4. Fill Out the Pre-Authorisation Form

Complete the cashless pre-authorisation form with the required details. The hospital will forward this form, along with the necessary medical records, to the insurer or TPA for cashless health insurance approval.

      5. Wait for Claim Approval

The insurer/TPA will review the submitted documents and treatment details, based on the policy coverage. If the treatment is covered under your senior citizen health insurance policy, the insurer will issue a cashless approval to the hospital.

      6. Receive Treatment

Once the cashless request is approved, the senior citizen can continue receiving treatment and, at the time of discharge, sign all medical documents.

      7. Claim Settlement

After discharge, the insurer settles the approved hospitalisation expenses directly with the network hospital. Moreover, the insured senior citizen is required to pay deductibles, co-payments, and the expenses not covered under their health insurance policy.

Documents Required for Cashless Claims Under Senior Citizen Health Insurance

The policyholder needs to submit the following documents to raise a cashless claim under health insurance for senior citizens:

      • Duly filled claim pre-authorisation form
      • Recent passport-size photograph, if required
      • Personal identification documents, such as Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, or Driving Licence
      • Health card or health policy
      • Valid identity proof

However, an insurer may ask for additional documents based on the nature of the illness, procedure, or claim type.

Things to Remember While Filing a Cashless Claim

Senior citizens should keep the following points in mind while filing a cashless claim:

      • Inform the insurer or TPA within the prescribed timeline.
      • Carry your senior citizen health insurance policy, health card and valid identity proof during hospital admission.
      • Carefully fill out the pre-authorisation form, ensuring the details are correct.
      • Review the final hospital bill to identify any deductibles or non-covered expenses.
      • If the treatment is taken at a non-network hospital, you can also apply for a reimbursement claim.

      Conclusion

A cashless health insurance facility makes the entire claim process easier for senior citizens by eliminating the need to pay medical bills upfront. By choosing a network hospital, informing the insurer in time, and completing the required formalities, senior citizens can ensure a smooth, hassle-free claim experience.
