What is SIP and Why Should One Invest?

Systematic Investment Plans, known as SIPs is a method of investment in mutual funds wherein an investor invests a fixed amount in the SIP scheme at regular intervals, that is, weekly, monthly, or quarterly, as per their convenience, for a pre-defined period of time to achieve great returns on their investment in the future.

SIPs are one of the emerging investment options that are becoming highly popular these days. Some of the top reasons one should invest in a SIP is:

  • SIP helps develop a habit of savings in an investor

  • SIP investment brings discipline to the investors’ life

  • It serves a dual purpose of investment and savings

  • Investments as low as Rs. 500 can be made in some SIPs

  • Eliminates financial burden during the financial crisis

  • Helps create a decent financial corpus

One can invest their money in SIPs through any reliable portal of investment and easily start investing after the completion of KYC.

PNB SIP Calculator

PNB SIP Calculator is an online financial tool that helps the investor understand how much investment they have to make in a SIP to attain desired financial corpus at the end of the scheme tenure. PNB SIP Calculator is a hassle-free, easily available online tool that helps the investor get desired results in a fraction of seconds for any complex financial calculation. Even though it is known that the financial market is volatile in nature, the Punjab National Bank Systematic Investment Plan Calculator calculates the returns keeping the current market scenario in mind. Due to market volatility, the computed results and actual results may vary at times.

How to Use PNB SIP Calculator?

PNB SIP Calculator is an easy to understand financial tool for every investor class, be it a beginner or an expert. An investor can know how much corpus they will create at the end of the tenure just by following these simple steps mentioned below:

  • Drag the slider to the amount you are willing to put in the PNB SIP scheme monthly

  • Drag the next slider to your expected rate of return from the SIP

  • Enter the investment period you are willing to invest for in that SIP

  • The total amount invested, interest earned, and the final maturity amount will be reflected on the screen immediately

PNB SIP Mutual Fund Calculator Formula

The following formula is used for the computation of maturity value received at the end of SIP investment tenure:

FV = P x ({[ 1+ i ] ^ n-1 } / i ) x (1+i)

Here is the elaboration:

FV = Future Value (The amount to be received after maturity)

P = Amount that the investor invests

i = The rate of interest periodically, that is, annual return rate percentage / 12

n = Total number of months

Mr. Rohan invests Rs. 5,000 in a month at 14% on PNB SIP scheme. If he selects the tenure of 10 years, then the returns will be:

FV = 5,000 x ({[ 1 + 0.14] ^ 120 – 1} / 0.14) x (1 + 0.14)

FV = Rs. 13,10,000

Total returns = Future Value – Invested Amount throughout the tenure

Total returns = Rs. 13,10,000 – Rs. 6,00,000

Total returns = Rs. 7,10,000

Benefits of Using PNB SIP Calculator

We know there are two methods of investing in a Mutual Fund, that is, the Lump sum method and SIP (Systematic Investment Plan).

In the lump sum method, complete investment in the mutual fund is made at one go whereas, in the SIP method of investment, regular investments are made for a pre-defined long-term period for great returns at the end of the tenure.

A SIP is considered a better investment option when compared to the lump sum method of investment in mutual funds because:

  • It inculcates a habit of regular savings.

  • One can deposit money at regular intervals without being overburdened to pay all the amount in one go.

  • Pocket-friendly deposits can be made monthly keeping the availability in mind

PNB Systematic Investment Plan Calculator is a beneficial tool in the following ways:

  • Great investment option for beginners.

  • Minimal details are required to make an investment

  • Calculators provide quick and accurate results in comparison to manual calculations.

  • The hassle-free tool with easy-to-understand options.

  • Provides assistance to investors as to how much they should invest to fulfill their future goals.

  • Q. Can SIP save taxes?

    Ans: While investing in ELSS (Equity Linked Savings Scheme) Mutual Funds, the investor is allowed to claim tax deductions up to Rs. 1,50,000 under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
  • Q. Are there any limitations on SIP investments?

    Ans: No. There are no investment restrictions in SIPs in general. An investor can invest as much amount as they want in a SIP.
  • Q. How does PNB SIP Calculator work?

    Ans: Enter the monthly invested amount, expected rate of return, tenure of the SIP, and the maturity amount to be received in the end in no time.
  • Q. Can I withdraw my SIP after some time?

    Ans: A normal SIP can be withdrawn anytime as per the investors’ convenience. Although, if it is an ELSS Equity Linked Savings Scheme, it comes with a 3-year lock-in period.
