In the wake of the surging COVID-19 cases in several countries across the world, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has issued a health advisory to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in India. The apex medical body has also appealed to the public to follow COVID-appropriate behaviour with immediate effect.

Some of the major countries across the world, including the USA, France, Japan, Brazil and South Korea, have reported about 5.37 lakh fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. While India has reported 141 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, four cases of the new BF.7 China variant have also been reported.
Although the IMA called the current COVID-19 situation non-alarming, it has asserted citizens to take precautionary measures that include the following:
The IMA has also asked the government to upscale its preparedness to combat the disease by increasing the availability of oxygen cylinders, emergency medicines and ambulance services.
However, the apex medical body believes that India will be able to manage any sudden surge in COVID-19 cases effectively with the help of dedicated medical manpower, robust public & private infrastructure, availability of sufficient medicines & vaccines and proactive measures taken by the government.
