      SBI Arogya Sanjeevani Policy: An Overview

      The SBI Arogya Sanjeevani Policy is a standard health insurance policy that has been introduced by the IRDAI. Under this policy, the insured can get coverage that ranges between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. This plan is available as an individual plan as well as a floater plan. It thus also covers the hospitalization expenses that may arise due to COVID 19. This plan is universal for all the health as well as the general insurance companies in India.

      Scope of Coverage

      The scope of coverage under this plan is explained as below:

      • Inpatient Cover- If you buySBI Arogya Sanjeevani Policy, it will cover medical expenses that might include room rent, medical practitioner expense, the ICU charges, nursing charges, OT charges, etc. that are incurred at the time of hospitalization due to an accident or any kind of illness for more than 24 hours.
      • Day Care Procedures- The everyday medical expenses that are incurred for the daycare procedures taken at the daycare centers or the hospitals are covered.
      • Cataract Treatment- This is the treatment covered by SBI Health Insuranceup to a maximum of 25% of the sum insured or Rs 40,000 for each eye, whichever is lower.
      • AYUSH Benefit- If you buy SBI Health Insurance, the medical expenses for the inpatient treatment that is taken under the Unani, Ayurveda, Siddha, and homeopathy are covered.
      • Pre-hospitalization Cover- The expenses incurred 30 days before the hospitalization date are also covered by the insurance company.
      • Post-hospitalization Cover- This is the expense that is incurred 60 days after the date of the discharge from the hospital.
      • Emergency Road Ambulance- The expenses incurred by the insurance company for transporting the insured from home to the nearest hospital with the right kind of medical facilities will be covered up to an amount of Rs 2000 per hospitalization.
      • Dental Treatment and Plastic Surgery- Dental treatment and plastic surgery that is necessitated due to an injury that might be caused due to an accident or for any disease

      Inclusions of the Plan

      Under its list of coverage, the policy includes the following:

      • Nursing expenses, operation theatre, and ICU expenses
      • Medicines cost during hospitalization
      • Cataract treatment expenses subject to a specific limit
      • Dental treatment & plastic surgery due to disease/injury
      • Advanced treatment procedures like robotic surgeries, oral chemotherapy, etc.

      Exclusions of the Plan

      The policy doesn’t exclude the following:

      • Pre-existing diseases till 4 years of the completion of the policy
      • Admission due to investigation and evaluation
      • Treatment that is taken outside India
      • Listed specific illnesses before 24 months
      • Cosmetic surgery.
      • Gender change surgery.
      • Injuries that were caused for participating in hazardous sports.
      • Obesity-related treatments
      • Hospital admission for respite care, rest cure, and rehabilitation

      Features & Benefits of the SBI Arogya Sanjeevani Policy

      The policy comes with the following features and benefits:

      • There is no need for a medical check-up till the age of 55 years if the individual does not have a medical history.
      • This is a family floater plan. This means that you can cover your entire family under one single plan.
      • You are entitled to a cumulative bonus of 5% of the sum insured for each of the claim-free years. You will be entitled to get this bonus up to a maximum of 50%.
      • The coverage amount may vary between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 5 lakhs.
      • There is an option for lifelong renewal.
      • One can get an Income tax benefit for the premium under section 80D.

      Cancellation of Policy

      The policyholders under the SBI Arogya Sanjeevani Insurance Policy have a 15- days free look period. If the policyholder wants to cancel the policy during this time, he/she can certainly do so after paying the cancellation fee. The paid premium will be refunded to the policyholder minus the expenses that have been incurred by the insurance company, subject to the condition that no claims were made during that period. This free look period is, however, not applicable during the time of the renewal.
