What Is Critical Illness Insurance For Brain Stroke?

Strokes also known as brain strokes happen when a part of the human brain does not receive blood supply and that part stops working. Brain stroke happens when any of the blood vessels are ruptured or the blood supply to the brain is blocked. This medical condition is considered a medical emergency and requires quick treatment.

Brain stroke occurs when the blood flow carrying oxygen stops due to either by blood clots or damage to the arterial vessel that carries blood to the human brain. Those who have a clogged artery are more prone to brain strokes.

As per a survey done by the National Center for Biotechnology Information nearly 1/5th of patients with the first-time stroke that have been admitted to the hospitals were either the age of 40 or less. The risk of brains stroke is higher in people who are more than 55 years of age but it can happen at any age to anyone. People with a family history of brain strokes are at higher risk. Let us tell you about the symptoms of brain stroke.

      Symptoms Of Brain Stroke

Brain Strokes are categorized as Ischemic as well as Haemorrhage. Ischemic can also be divided into Embolic and Thrombotic. Hemorrhage can be divided into Intracerebral and Subarachnoid.

A brain stroke that happens for a short period of time and disappears in 24 hours is known as a Transient Ischemic Attack. Their symptoms are similar to brain strokes and are considered as a warning for a serious brain stroke in the future. However, they do not cause any severe brain damage but the patients are advised to take precautions to prevent severe strokes in the future.

Ischemic strokes and brain strokes are similar to heart-attack as both happen due to clotting of blood. Whereas Haemorrhage strokes are caused because of leaking blood vessels that lead to death on the spot.

It is said that strokes can happen to anyone at any time and the primary symptoms are as follows:

      • Upper Limbs Weakens
      • Difficulty in speaking
      • Total/Partial Paralysis
      • Visibility problems
      • Droopy Face
      • Not Able to Focus

      Effects Of Brain Stroke

The reason behind a brain stroke is a blood clot in the brain vessel. Since everything is controlled by the brain, it can affect the person very badly and cause severe health issues. It can paralyze the body of the patient on either or both sides. It will depend on the location of the stroke in the brain. It takes around a year or two to recover from a brain stroke that will depend on the kind of treatment and therapy a doctor recommends and followed by the caretaker of the patients.

When you are above 40 years of age. Also, when you do not take care of your health and eating habits then you become more prone to several critical diseases like a heart attack or brain stroke. Since the major reason for brain stroke are blood clot and rupture of the blood vessel and in case the blood flow decreases and does not reach the brain on time and properly can lead to brain stroke.

It is not easy to deal with a brain stroke and your family’s support is a must at times like these. However, the expenditure in the treatment, hospital and doctor’s fee, etc. is one of the biggest concerns as they can clear out all your savings. This is where the critical illness insurance policy comes in handy because the policyholder gets coverage for medical expenses, pre and post-hospitalization, ambulance charges, doctor’s fees, etc. Purchasing a health insurance company can make your battle with the disease easier as you will not have to spend out of your pocket.

Treatment Cost Of Brain Stroke In India

Depending on the type of brain stroke the doctor initiates the treatment. Ischemia cases require the dissolving of the clot that is concentrated and restarts the flow of blood normally. Whereas, in Haemorrhage the doctors have to work on reducing the blood flow in the brain as quickly as possible.

There are drugs/medicines available for ischemia that are given to the patients through their veins in the initial stage of the brain stroke. The doctor also prescribes aspirins and Clopidogrel that makes the blood thin to flow easily in the veins and reach the brain.  Since it requires a year-long treatment, you will have to spend thousands of rupees that will include medication, testing, doctor’s fee, etc.

Apart from this, the doctor prescribes endovascular therapy and Intracranial vascular procedures. This is a minimally invasive technique, aspiration systems, and medications as well as surgery. The expenditure in this treatment can go up to lakhs of rupees and it can cause a financial burden if you are not covered with a critical illness insurance policy.

      Wrapping It Up

In critical medical conditions like heart-attack, brain-strokes, etc. can put a hole in your pocket. This is why it is recommended to purchase a critical illness insurance policy even if you have a basic health insurance policy. It provides a comprehensive cover to the policyholder and takes off the financial burden. Also, it is recommended by the insurance experts to purchase the policy online for a seamless experience and cost-effective premium rates. You can also calculate the premium rates of the policy and compare different plans to purchase the one that suits your requirements.
