Aprilia Dorsoduro Insurance

Aprilia markets Dorsoduro 1200 (Dorso) as a dirt bike. However, its curve weight, a snatchy throttle low ground clearance makes it more road friendly than the roads less explored.  At 19.3lacs on road Delhi it costs a bomb but that is to be expected considering it’s brought through CBU route.

Design:

Dorso is a naked motorcycle with a black plastic shield upfront which does a surprisingly good job of deflecting the wind.
The bike is held together by a modular tubular steel frame along with a removable aluminium rear sub frame.
The bike is tall with high seating position at 34.25 inches
Bike’s dimensions are 2248 mm x 925 mm x 1205 mm (L x W x H)

Power & Performance:

The engine on Dorso is 1197cc 90° V-Twin. The power is everywhere thanks to the wide torque band. There is a three mode traction control but in sports mode the power comes extremely fast making you pop wheelies in the blink of an eye. One would be using Touring mode only where power is more manageable.

Braking & Handling:

Dorso is a tall bike & combine the curb weight of 212kg only the tallest & strongest of the person can manage it. High centre of gravity & low foot pegs ensure you don’t attack the corners with zest. The suspension setup also doesn’t infuse confident at corners as it starts to go spongy. However, straight line performance is top notch. Dorso rides on 120/70 17’ tyre in front & 180/55 17’ tyre which offer decent grip but it’s the chassis which lets the bike down in terms of outright handling.

The seats are comfortable & tall riders will appreciate the amount of space on offer.
Dorso wears dual 320mm disk brakes at front & a single 240mm disc at the rear.
The bike features safety net of dual channel ABS as well as Traction Control.

What Insurance cover to opt for:

Dorso is marketed as a dirt bike. Off-roading on a bike this big & bulky is always a challenge. Having proper insurance cover will ensure you have peace of mind while adventuring in the wild.

Insurance which gives 100% crash cover on a bike of this segment is no brainer.
Value of plastics depreciates a lot. 0% depreciation insurance goes a long way in keeping the repair bills down in case of a fall.
It’s a wise idea to have add-ons to the policy like cash less benefit, theft, vandalism cover among others. These add-ons save a lot of hassle on a bad day.
Premium vehicles need premium care. The initial cost of the insurance & its add-ons might seem a lot but at the end of the day they save your wallet from going lighter.
