Policy Details

Grace Period: There is a limited timeframe of 30 days from the due date of the unpaid premium to pay all dues, without interest. This timeframe is reduced to 15 days if payments are being done on a monthly basis.

Policy Termination or Surrender Benefit: This policy does not offer Surrender Value. The policy lapses after the end of the Grace Period from the due date of the first unpaid premium. Benefits are not available once the policy has lapsed.

Free Look Period: A limited free look period of 15 days from the date of receiving policy documents is allowed to review the policy. This timeframe is extended to thirty days if the policy was sold via distance marketing mode. If the policyholder does not wish to continue with the policy, then he or she has to return the policy stating their objections. The premium that was paid will be refunded minus a proportionate premium for the risk borne by the company, including as any extra expenses, such as towards a medical examination or stamp duty charges.

Additional Features or Riders

  • The revival of a lapsed policy is possible if the policyholder submits a written request for reinstatement within a timeframe of two years from the first unpaid premium. Sufficient evidence of insurability has to be provided to the company, and all due premiums and interest accumulated have to be paid at the time of reinstatement. The cost of any medical examination has to be borne by the policyholder.

Exclusions

  • The company will screen people who work in hazardous environments or will offer the policy at higher premium rates corresponding to the higher life risk.  
  •  The term insurance cover is void if the person insured, whether sane or insane at the time, commits suicide within one year from the start of the policy cover or revival of the policy. The company will refund only 80% of the premiums received to the nominee.
