Permanent Driver's Licence (DL): A permanent driver's licence is mandatory for all private vehicle owners. It is issued at least 30 days after possessing a learner's licence. The validity of a permanent driving licence is usually 20 years or until you are 40 years old, whichever is earlier.
Commercial Driving Licence (CDL): A CDL is mandatory to drive commercial vehicles, such as buses, trucks, tractors, etc., in India. You must pass a mandatory driving test and a medical examination to get this licence. The validity of a commercial driving licence is 5 years.
International Driving Permit (IDP): This type of driving licence is required to drive abroad. It is valid for 1 year and can only be issued to applicants who already possess a valid Indian DL and are over 18 years old.
