How to Get a PUC Certificate in Ladakh?

Ladakh has the cleanest air in India, and to maintain this, the government mandates all vehicle owners to have a valid PUC certificate in Ladakh. What is a PUC Certificate?

A PUC certificate is a proof that the emissions released from your vehicle are under the prescribed environmental standards. EVs are exempted from this requirement, as they do not release any toxic emissions into the air. Authorized PUC centres issue this certificate after assessing the Carbon Monoxide (CO) content in the smoke released by a vehicle.

How to Obtain a PUC Certificate Online in Ladakh?

Since vehicle emissions are not measurable online, you must visit an authorized emission-testing centre to obtain a PUC certificate. Nevertheless, you can download and check the pollution testing details on an existing Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate online through the official Parivahan website.

How to Download Ladakh Vehicle PUC Certificate Online?

Looking for the Ladakh PUC certificate download process? Here is a quick guide:

      • Visit the official Parivahan portal of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
      • Fill in the necessary details in the specified sections.
      • Your pollution certificate details will be visible on the screen.
      • You can download the PUC certificate for future reference.

Steps to Get a PUC Certificate Offline in Ladakh

There are several emission testing centres authorized by the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Ladakh, where you can request a PUCC. Here is how you can get a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate offline:

      • Visit the Pollution Under Control (PUC) Centre in your area.
      • Follow the operator’s instructions and park your vehicle accordingly.
      • The amount of CO content and other toxic gases in the smoke released from your vehicle’s exhaust will be measured.
      • To pass the test, your vehicle must produce emissions less than the specified environmental norms.
      • If your vehicle passes the PUC test, pay the required fee to obtain the PUC certificate.

Types of Emission Tests Conducted for Your Vehicle in Delhi

Emission tests generally depend on the vehicle class and the fuel that is utilized to power it. Some of the common emission test procedures in India are given below:

      Petrol

      • Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) Test - The Carbon Dioxide test checks for CO₂ levels to evaluate fuel/air combustion efficiency.
      • Hydrocarbon (HC) Test - It estimates the level of unburnt fuel in a vehicle
      • Carbon Monoxide (CO) Test - It estimates air intake and fuel combustion efficiency by measuring CO levels

      Diesel

      • Idling Carbon Monoxide (CO) Test - It measures emissions from a parked vehicle with its engine running
      • Smoke Density Test - It assesses engine condition and fuel combustion efficiency by measuring black smoke output

      LPG/CNG

      • Carbon Monoxide (CO) Test - The CO test measures CO levels for the assessment of fuel combustion efficiency and air intake.
      • Hydrocarbon (HC) Test - This test estimates the fuel combustion levels of a vehicle
      • System Soundness Test - It detects any leakages in the CNG/LPG system of a vehicle

How to Check PUC Certificate Expiry Online?

PUC certificate validity dates are available through the PUCC tab of the Parivahan website. You will simply need to input the last five digits of your vehicle's chassis number, the registration number of your vehicle, and the code that is displayed on the screen. The certificate will then be displayed on the screen, where you will be able to look at the various fields, such as emission readings, date of the test, prescribed value, as well as the validity of the certificate, including the expiry date.

      FAQs

A new vehicle comes with a PUC certificate that is valid for a year. Renew it every year if your car is BSVI compliant, and every six months if it is older. Always renew your PUCC before it expires.

You can get a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate in all the states and union territories of India by simply visiting an authorized emission testing Centre in your region.

Traffic police can request a PUC certificate during a random stop or routine checks. However, sometimes, RTO asks for a PUC certificate for specific inspections.

You cannot drive a vehicle without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. Doing so can result in a fine and/or a punishment set by the authorities.

Driving without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate in Ladakh may attract a fine of Rs 1,000 and suspension of the driving license.

No, you cannot update your PUC online, but you can download your existing pollution certificate. You must visit the nearest emission-testing Centre to update details or renew your PUC certificate.

What happens if a PUC test fails? PUC test failure simply means that your vehicle is producing more emissions than prescribed environmental norms. In this case, your vehicle will not be eligible for a Pollution Under Control Certificate. You must address the issue causing that failure and get it retested.
