A vehicle RC is issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in the Union Territory. The RC of a Jammu and Kashmir vehicle is an official document that is used to prove its legal ownership status. Jammu & Kashmir vehicle owners must register their new vehicles via the Parivahan Sewa website or by visiting their nearest RTO.
Some important details that you can view on your Jammu & Kashmir vehicle registration certificate are listed below:
Vehicle registration number
Registration date and validity period
Chassis number
Engine number

To get your vehicle RC in Jammu & Kashmir, follow the steps listed below:
Collect the receipt from your dealership after buying your vehicle.
Visit your nearest RTO or log in to the Parivahan Sewa portal to register your vehicle.
Submit the required documents along with the application form.
Pay the necessary fee after your vehicle clears the inspection to receive your RC.
Note: The application fee for a vehicle registration certificate varies according to the type of vehicle and usually ranges from ₹50 to ₹ 5,000.
To get your Jammu & Kashmir vehicle registration certificate, you have to submit the following documents:
Form 20 - RC application form
Form 21 - Sales certificate (issued by the dealer)
Form 22 and 22A - Roadworthiness certificate
Valid age, address and ID proof
Vehicle purchase invoice
A copy of the vehicle's insurance policy
A copy of the owner's PAN card
Temporary RC issued by the dealer
Registration fee payment receipt
Form 34 - for adding a hire-purchase, hypothecation or lease agreement to the RC
To apply for a duplicate J&K vehicle RC via the Parivahan Sewa portal, follow these steps:
Open the Parivahan Sewa website.
Go to 'Online Services'.
Click 'Vehicle Related Services' and select 'Jammu & Kashmir'.
Click 'Proceed' after entering your 'Registration Number' and selecting your 'RTO'.
Click 'Application for Duplicate RC'.
Now, enter the required details (vehicle registration number and the last five digits of its chassis).
Click on 'Verify Details' and verify using the 'OTP'.
Select a reason for the application to receive your Jammu & Kashmir duplicate vehicle RC.
You can also apply for a duplicate Jammu & Kashmir RC offline by visiting your nearest RTO. Submit the required documents and pay the fee. You will receive your duplicate RC after your application has been processed.
A few important documents that you must submit to receive your duplicate vehicle RC are listed below:

Address proof (Aadhaar, passport, etc.)

Open the Parivahan Sewa website.
Go to the 'Online Services' tab.
Click 'Vehicle Related Services' and select 'Jammu & Kashmir'.
Enter your 'Registration Number', select the 'RTO' and click 'Proceed'.
Go to the 'Status/Information Services' tab.
From the dropdown, click 'Know Your Application Status'.
Enter your 'Application Number' or 'Vehicle Registration Number'.
Enter the CAPTCHA and click 'Submit'.
Your Jammu & Kashmir vehicle RC status will be displayed.
Currently, you cannot check your Jammu & Kashmir vehicle RC status through the mParivahan App. You can only check your vehicle RC details on the NextGen mParivahan App once the authorities have issued your RC. To get your virtual RC on the app, you need to add your vehicle registration number, the last five digits of the chassis number, and the engine number.
To check your Jammu & Kashmir vehicle RC status through Policybazaar.com, follow these steps:
Open Policybazaar.com
Go to the 'Check Vehicle RC Status' web page.
Enter your 'Vehicle Registration Number' and click 'Submit'.
Your Jammu & Kashmir vehicle RC status will be displayed.
Note: In some cases, you will be asked to fill out more details, such as make, model, fuel type, etc., to fetch your RC status from Policybazaar.com
You can download a copy of your Jammu & Kashmir vehicle RC by following the steps mentioned below:
Visit the Parivahan Sewa portal and go to the 'Check Vehicle RC Status' web page.
Enter your 'Vehicle Registration Number' and click 'Submit'.
Your Jammu & Kashmir vehicle RC will be displayed on the screen.
Click 'Download Document'. Complete the OTP verification to download a copy of your vehicle RC.
You must apply for the vehicle RC transfer status in J&K as soon as you purchase a used vehicle, using the steps listed below:
Visit the Parivahan Sewa website.
Go to 'Vehicle Related Services'. Select 'Jammu & Kashmir'.
Click 'Proceed' after entering your 'Registration Number' and selecting your 'RTO'.
Click the 'Apply for - Transfer of Ownership' icon.
Enter the required details (generated application number/vehicle registration number, engine and chassis number). Click 'Verify Details'.
The RC transfer status of your Jammu and Kashmir vehicle will be displayed.
To check your J&K vehicle RC details online, visit the RC status page on the Parivahan Sewa website. You can also check your RC details on the mParivahan App once the RC is issued.
You can download a copy of your Jammu and Kashmir vehicle RC from the RC status webpage on the Parivahan Sewa website.
You can transfer your J&K vehicle ownership by applying along with the required documents on the Parivahan Sewa website. After paying the required fee, your application will be processed, and your Jammu and Kashmir vehicle's ownership will be transferred to the new owner.
If you lose or misplace your J&K vehicle RC, you can apply for a duplicate J&K vehicle RC through the Parivahan Sewa website. Submit the required documents and pay the fee online to get your duplicate RC in J&K.
The cost of transferring a vehicle RC in J&K may vary from one RTO to another. Typically, the RC transfer fee for a private vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir is ₹300.
J&K has over 22 RTOs, which are spread across different districts in the Union Territory to provide vehicle-related services. Each RTO also has a designated code, such as JK01 for Srinagar, JK02 for Jammu, etc.
