When a driver breaks traffic laws in India, traffic authorities issue an electronic ticket known as an e-challan. As opposed to conventional paper challans, e-Challans are generated electronically and delivered by email or SMS to the offender's registered mobile number. Typical infractions include driving without a seatbelt, speeding, and running red lights. Surveillance cameras or traffic police equipment are used to record these offences. The fine can be easily paid offline or online.

Telangana uses a 12-point system for traffic infractions. Accumulating more than 12 points in two years results in a license suspension for at least one year. Points cannot be manually cleared; they are reset after two years if no other violations occur. To avoid point accumulation, do not commit violations.
In general, an e-challan payment takes about one day to be updated in the system. If the payment fails or the challan still shows, your money will be returned within seven business days. For any questions about failed payments or reimbursements, call the Telangana Police hotline at 040-27852721/72.
