      Reliance Health Insurance Portability

Reliance General Insurance Company offers policyholders with other insurers to opt for their preferred Reliance health insurance plan without losing the benefits accrued under their ongoing policy. This liberty is provided to everyone wishing to port to a new health plan for a better scope of coverage at a comparatively lower premium. People can make this switch approximately 45 days before their current policy's renewal date.

Benefits of Porting to a Reliance Health Insurance Policy

Here are some of the main advantages of porting to a Reliance health insurance plan:

      • Superior Coverage Options- Customers holding policies with other health insurers can switch to Reliance Health Insurance for a better scope of coverage, faster claim process, and better insurance services at the same premium. Some of the major benefits that can avail include higher sum insured, lesser waiting periods, domiciliary treatments, global health cover, etc.
      • Reduced Premiums - Portability allows individuals to shift to a Reliance health insurance plan with reduced premiums, especially if their existing policy with equivalent coverage has grown expensive due to the age of the insured members, changes in health status, or adjustments in the insurer's underwriting practices.
      • Waiting Periods Transfer – While porting to a Reliance health insurance plan, the waiting periods for specific illnesses, maternity, etc. will continue. The policyholder will only serve the outstanding waiting periods after the switch.
      • NCB Retention - Portability also involves retaining the cumulative bonus for all the claim-free years. For example, if the NCB from the previous policy is 10% for one year and the next year the policyholder switches to a Reliance health insurance plan, then benefit of 10% NCB plus a new NCB will be provided.

How to Port to a Reliance Health Insurance Policy?

The process of porting to a Reliance health insurance policy online is simple. Follow these steps to port to a Reliance health policy on Policybazaar.com

Step 1: Choose the Reliance health insurance policy you have planned to purchase

Step 2: Initiate a porting request with Policybazaar roughly 45 days before your current policy's expiration date

Step 3: Complete the online proposal and portability forms on Policybazaar

Step 4: Make the payment for the preferred Reliance health insurance policy

Step 5: Policybazaar will send your portability request to Reliance General Insurance Company Limited

Step 6: Reliance General Insurance will communicate with your current insurer to collect information about your claim history, medical records, etc., which otherwise is available from the IRDAI website as well.

Step 7: Your current insurer will provide all the requested information to Reliance General Insurance via IRDAI's shared data portal within 7 working days. Your portability request will be put on hold if there is any delay in data sharing from your current insurer.

Step 8: Reliance General Insurance will evaluate the documents received based on which the health insurance portability proceeds.

Documents Required for Reliance Health Insurance Portability

Look at the documents required for the Reliance health insurance portability process:

      • A comprehensive record of claim history from previous policy claims
      • The most recent renewal notice with clear information about the NCB
      • Copies of the health insurance policies from the previous year.
      • Medical files such as pharmacy receipts, pathology reports, hospital discharge certificates, etc., if there have been any past insurance claims.

How Does NCB Work Under Reliance Health Insurance Portability?

NCB accumulated under the previous policy works as per the portability scenarios.

      Scenario 1:

If the insured chooses a Reliance health policy with the same base sum insured, the previous policies waiting period will continue

For instance, consider Aarya, who currently holds a health policy of Rs 4 lakh with an NCB of Rs 2 lakh. She is interested in porting to a Reliance health insurance policy that also offers coverage of Rs 4 lakh. In this scenario, the waiting periods from Aarya's previous policy will be carried forward; fresh waiting periods will not apply

      Scenario 2:

If the insured opts for a Reliance health policy with a base sum insured equivalent to the previous policy's base coverage amount plus the NCB, the waiting periods of the previous policy will be sufficient.

For instance, consider Aarya, who currently holds a Rs 4 lakh health policy along with an NCB of Rs 2 lakh. Aarya is interested in porting to a Reliance health insurance policy offering coverage of Rs 6 lakh. In this case, the waiting periods from Aarya's previous policy will seamlessly carry forward, requiring no additional waiting periods. This smooth transfer is facilitated because the combined value of Aarya's base sum insured and the NCB (Rs 4 lakh + Rs 2 lakh) aligns perfectly with the sum insured of the Reliance health policy (Rs 6 lakh).

      Scenario 3:

If the policyholder chooses a Reliance health policy with a higher base sum insured than the previous policy's base sum insured plus the NCB, standard waiting periods will apply for the additional coverage amount.

For instance, consider Aarya, who currently holds a health policy of Rs 4 lakh, accompanied by an NCB of Rs 2 lakh. She wants to switch to a Reliance health insurance policy providing coverage of Rs 10 lakh. In this context, the waiting periods served under Aarya's previous policy will be valid for coverage up to Rs 6 lakh. To claim the additional Rs 4 lakh, Aarya msut serve the standard waiting periods.
