      Oriental Overseas Mediclaim Policy (E&S)

      Oriental Overseas Mediclaim Policy (E&S) is a medical emergency policy from Oriental Insurance Company Ltd. that covers medical expenses, arising due to physical injuries, illness, and contagious diseases. Especially designed for students and employed individual travelling abroad, the insured under this policy can avail the best treatment following consultation with the institute’s medical practitioner. Thus, it acts as back-up, ensuring financial coverage for students and employed individuals during a medical emergency overseas.

      Eligibility Criteria


      The minimum eligibility conditions to buy this policy are:

      Type

      6 months (with parental coverage)

      Maximum Entry Age

      70 years

      Number of people covered

      Individual (for employed and students)

      Family (parents, spouse and children)

      Residential Status

      Citizens of India, with temporary residence in another country for education, research or employment through an Indian agency

      Coverage Offered

      Under Oriental Overseas Mediclaim Policy (E&S), one can opt for the Individual or Family Floater option; the sum insured will be paid in US$ currency (US$ 75,000). The insured is required to reside in the same country as intended for mediclaim to be eligible for coverage. The coverage as part of the plan is as follows:

      • Emergency Medical Treatment -Any sudden illness or hospitalization as eligible for coverage under the policy.
      • Mental, Emotional, Nervous Ailments Cover-Medical expenses covered for 30 days of continuous in-hospital treatment.
      • Repatriation for Transport of the Remains-In the event of the death of the insured, transportation of the remains to India and funeral expenses are covered.

      Inclusions of the Policy

      Other than the basic emergency coverage, the following are included under the Oriental Overseas Mediclaim Policy (E&S) insurance policy:

      • Licensed Transportation- For efficient transport of the insured passenger to the medical institute, the costs of specific transport such as ambulance and aircraft are included in the policy.
      • Baggage Costs- One of the biggest worries surrounding overseas travel is loss of baggage. This can result in loss of articles of prime importance, such as clothing, documents, etc. Accordingly, the policy can compensate effectively for losses incurred due to baggage misplacement and loss.
      • Employee Coverage Waiver- If the insured consults the medical practitioner associated with the educational institute / employer, a waiver of US $50 is offered.
      • Outpatient Treatment- In the event of emergency outpatient expenses exceeding US $500, the treatment is covered under the policy.

      Exclusions of the Policy

      The following are excluded from coverage under Oriental Overseas Mediclaim Policy (E&S):

      • Any pre-existing condition
      • Any terminal illness
      • Intentionally self-inflicted injury or suicide
      • Use of alcohol, intoxicants, and non-prescribed drugs
      • Damage due to war, invasion, and terrorism
      • Auditory examination or costs of prescription glasses
      • Injuries due to sports and mountaineering
      • Infertility and HRT
      • Non-emergency hospitalization
      • Pregnancy, miscarriage, and childbirth
      • Cosmetic surgery (unless a health emergency)
      • Treatment for HIV/AIDS
      • Any injury or illness occurring outside the country of travel

      Information on Cancellation of the Policy

      The following are the conditions for cancellation of the Oriental Overseas Mediclaim Policy (E&S):

      • The person covered by the policy is not regarded as the “insured” as per policy terms
      • Concealing pre-existing health conditions for which treatment is taken after policy purchase
      • Failure to travel overseas beyond 14 days of policy purchase upon production of passport
