10 Countries Where Indian Travellers Can Now Pay with UPI

This means no more hassle of expensive forex markup and the need to carry large amounts of cash.

The Latest Additions: Cambodia and Greece

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has been partnering with foreign banks to build out its international network. The latest milestone came in June 2026, when Cambodia joined the list of countries accepting UPI payments. Through a partnership with ACLEDA Bank and the national KHQR system, Indian travellers can now make seamless digital payments at over 4.5 million merchant locations across Cambodia.

In May 2026, Greece joined the UPI network, partnering with Eurobank S.A. to facilitate Person-to-Person (P2P) transfers.

Where Else Can You Use UPI Abroad?

The global rollout of UPI began with Bhutan in 2021 and has since expanded across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. The full list of countries currently supporting UPI (for either merchant payments or P2P transfers) includes:

How UPI Abroad Can Improve Your Trips

Being able to to use UPI internationally means several distinct advantages. Compared to traditional payment methods, it can help Indians in many ways:

  • Lower CostsIt slashes transaction fees and foreign exchange processing charges typically imposed by international credit and debit cards.
  • Cash-Free ConvenienceTravellers no longer need to exchange massive amounts of currency before a trip or worry about carrying bulky cash.
  • Real-Time TrackingBecause payments are debited directly from an Indian bank account via familiar apps like Google Pay or PhonePe, users can track their expenses in real-time without hidden delays.

Scaling Beyond India

After UPI's success in India, its international expansion is only the beginning of a new era. According to government data, UPI processed over 24 crore transactions valued at approximately ₹314 lakh crore in 2025-2026. As of June 2026, the network boasts over 55.49 crore onboarded users.

With India currently maintaining cooperation agreements with 23 countries on Digital Public Infrastructure, the list of nations accepting UPI is expected to grow. This is a step towards cementing India's position as a global leader in financial technology.
