The Embassy of Spain has appointed BLS International as the official agency that grants Spain visas to applicants on its behalf.

Types of Spain Visa for Indians

Spain broadly provides two types of visas to foreigners who want to visit Spain for tourism and other purposes. Applicants should select the appropriate type of Spain visa based on the purpose of their travel. Take a look at the two Spain visa types and their sub-categories:

  1. Short-Term Visa

    Short-term visa allows foreigners to enter and stay in Spain for a maximum of 90 days. Based on the visitor's purpose of coming to Spain, it has the following categories

    • Spain Tourist Visa: A Spain Tourist visa is for people travelling to Spain for vacationing or tourism purposes. Applicants for a Spain Tourist visa from India without a guarantor in Spain can make a booking with a hotel, travel agent or tour operator.
    • Spain Business Visa: A business visa for Spain allows a foreign national to visit Spain and conduct business activities like attending conferences and meetings and signing contracts.     • Spain Airport Transit Visa: This Spain visa allows people from other countries to enter Spain's territory and board a connecting flight to a third country. All transiting foreigners must bear Spain visa costs if they wish to transit. Holders of this type of Spain visa are not allowed to exit the international transit areas of the airport.
    • Spain Transit Visa for Seamen: This Spanish visa is meant for people travelling to Spain by ship. This type of Spain visa allows foreign nationals to stay in Spain for up to 5 days before continuing their journey on a ship to another country.
    • Spain Visa for Family Members of EEA/ EU Citizens: This is a category of Spain visa that applies to family members o>f citizens of European Economic Area (EEA) and European Union (EU) countries. Applicants under this category can apply for a short-term visa to enter Spain for a short time.
  2. Spain National Visa

    A national visa is a type of Spanish visa that lets foreigners stay in Spain for a longer duration, exceeding 90 days. Also known as a Residence visa or Long-Stay visa, it permits its holder to study, work and conduct research in Spain. It is broadly divided into four types

    • Spain Study Visa: A Study visa is a type of national visa that allows its holders to stay and study in Spain for more than 90 days. People with this visa can conduct research work as well as undergo unpaid training in Spain.
    • Spain Work Visa: A Work visa is a type of long-stay visa that grants permission to its holders to work in Spain. It consists of different categories including intra-company transfers, self-employment visas, visas for research, development & innovation, visa for highly qualified professionals and visas for entrepreneurs.
    • Spain Non-Lucrative Residence Visa: A Non-Lucrative Residence visa is a type of residence visa that allows foreign nationals to stay as legal residents of Spain for up to 1 year. This type of Spain visa can be renewed for another 2 years.
    • Spain Family Reunification Visa: A Family Reunification visa is a type of national visa that allows family members and first-grade relatives of a Spanish resident to travel and stay in Spain for more than 3 months.

Spain Visa Requirements for Indians

There is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival for Spain for Indians. Those with Indian passports must obtain a Spain visa to tour, work or study in Spain. No Indian nationals will be allowed to enter the borders of Spain without a valid Spain visa from India, irrespective of their travel purpose.
Even Indians who wish to transit from the international transit areas of Spanish airports require a Spain visa. To fulfil Spain visa requirements, they must buy Schengen travel insurance as per the requirements of entering a Schengen area.

Eligible Indians can also opt for a Spain digital nomad visa if they work remotely and meet the criteria. These include having at least three months of work experience with a foreign company, a certificate issued by the Government Companies House declaring the nature of business, proof of university degrees, and documentary proof of financial means. Indians who wish to reside on a Spain digital nomad visa must have at least 200% of the monthly Spanish national minimum wage.

How to Apply for Spain Visa from India?

Regarding Indian passport holders, BLS International handles and processes all Spain visa applications on behalf of the Embassy of Spain. If you want to apply for Spain visa online, you need to follow the steps given below:

  • Visit the official website of BLS International
  • Select the type of Spain visa you want to apply for according to your purpose of travel
  • Arrange all the documents needed for Spain visa to be attached to your visa application, including Schengen travel insurance
  • Download the necessary forms and fill it
  • Submit the forms along with all the supporting documents to the BLS International office as per the Embassy/ Consulate having jurisdiction over your city of residence
  • Pay the Spain visa fees
  • You will need to visit the designated BLS centre to give your biometrics

Make sure to confirm the Spanish Embassy/ Consulate where you need to appear for your Spain visa appointment/interview. The jurisdiction is decided based on the city where the applicant has stayed for the last 6 months. After submission, you can track your Spain visa application status online to know if your Spain visa is approved.

Spain Visa Checklist for Smooth Application Process

  • Your Indian passport should have at least two empty pages and be valid for at least three months after your date of arrival back in India.
  • The photograph should be taken on a white background and be no older than 6 months. It should be 3.5cm X 4.5cm. The candidate should not wear spectacles or sunglasses, and their teeth should not be visible.
  • Fill out the application form with a blue pen or get it printed.
  • All required affidavits should be made on a stamp paper of INR 100 and contain the notary's seal.
  • Apply for Spain visa early so you have enough time to provide any additional documents in case of processing delays.

Spain Visa Fees

Every applicant for a Spain visa must pay a visa fee at the time of submitting their visa application. Applicants above the age of 12 will have to pay a fee of INR 7275. Children between the ages of 6 and 12 must pay INR 3638. The applicants must also pay an additional service charge of INR 1537.

Family members of EEA and EU citizens don't need to bear Spain visa costs and can obtain a Spain visa for free. Moreover, no Spain visa fee has to be paid for Spain visa applications by children under the age of 6.
