Aditya Birla Health Insurance Corona Kavach policy is an indemnity-based health insurance plan designed to cover medical expenses arising out of the treatment of COVID-19. It is a standard coronavirus health insurance plan that financially secures the insured against the medical expenses incurred after getting diagnosed with COVID-19. Since COVID-19 can lead to serious ailments, its treatment can get very expensive. Besides, the patients also have to buy support items, such as masks, PPE kits, gloves, etc., that can add to the overall treatment cost. The Aditya Birla Health Insurance Corona Kavach policy assists the insured to cover such expenses as per the guidelines of the Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority of India (IRDAI).

  • Coverage for Individuals & Families- The plan offers sum insured on an individual and family floater basis.
  • Flexible Sum Insured - The policyholder can opt for a sum insured ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh.
  • No Pre-Policy Health Check-Up - The insured does not have to undergo a pre-policy health check-up to buy the Aditya Birla Corona Kavach online.
  • Coverage for PPE Kit, Masks and Gloves - This policy also covers support items, such as masks, gloves and PPE kits, used during the treatment of COVID-19, which are usually not covered by health plans.
  • Cashless Hospitalization - The plan offers cashless treatment at over 8200 network hospitals. The Aditya Birla Corona Kavach hospital list can be checked by contacting the insurer.
  • Premium Savings for Health Care Workers - The plan provides a savings of 5% on the premium if the insured is a health care worker.

Eligibility Criteria

Following is the eligibility criteria for Aditya Birla Health Insurance Corona Kavach policy:

  • Age Restriction for Adults - 18 to 65 years
  • Age Restriction for Dependent Children - Day 1 to 25 years old
  • Policy Coverage - Individual/ Family Floater
  • Family Members Covered Under the Family Floater Plan - Legally wedded spouse, dependent children, parents and parents-in-law
  • Sum Insured - Rs 50,000 to Rs 5,00,000
  • Waiting Period - First 15 days from the policy commencement date
  • Policy Term - 5 months, 6.5 months and 9.5 months

Inclusions of Aditya Birla Health Insurance Corona Kavach Policy 

Here are the inclusions of Aditya Birla Health Insurance Corona Kavach policy: 

Hospitalization Expenses:

  • It covers hospitalization expenses incurred on the treatment of COVID-19.
  • The coverage will apply if the hospitalization is for a minimum of 24 hours.
  • It covers the cost of PPE kits, masks, gloves, etc.

Pre & Post Hospitalization Expenses:

  • It covers pre-hospitalization expenses for up to 15 days arising out of diagnostic tests or consultations for COVID-19.
  • It also covers the cost of diagnostic tests, medicines and physiotherapy for up to 30 days after getting discharged from the hospital.

Home Care Treatment Expenses:

  • It covers COVID-19 treatment costs incurred at home for up to 14 days.
  • It covers the cost of the COVID-19 diagnostic test, provided it was conducted at a government authorized diagnostic centre.

Ambulance Charges:

  • It covers the cost of road ambulance services for up to a maximum of Rs 2000 per hospitalization.

AYUSH Treatment Coverage:

  • It will cover in-patient treatment expenses arising out of COVID-19 taken under AYUSH or Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Naturopathy, Homeopathy and Siddha system of medicines.

Hospital Daily Cash Benefit:

  • It will provide a hospital cash benefit of 0.5% of the sum insured per day to the insured in case of hospitalization for the treatment of COVID-19.
  • This optional benefit will be available for a maximum of 15 days.

Exclusions of Aditya Birla Health Insurance Corona Kavach Policy

The following expenses are not covered under Aditya Birla Health Insurance Corona Kavach policy:

  • Claims arising out of COVID-19 diagnosed before policy commencement
  • COVID-19 test conducted at a non-authorized laboratory
  • OPD and daycare treatment expenses
  • Hospitalization for respite care, rehabilitation or rest cure
  • Cost of dietary supplements available without doctor’s prescription
  • Hospitalization for evaluation or investigation purposes
  • Treatment or diagnosis outside India’s border
  • Expenses arising out of unproven treatment

Aditya Birla Health Insurance Corona Kavach Policy Claim Process

The claim process for Aditya Birla Health Insurance Corona Kavach policy is as follows:

Cashless Claim:

  • Get hospitalized at a network hospital of  Aditya Birla Health Insurance
  • Submit the cashless request form available at the hospital to the insurer
  • The insurer will issue a pre-authorization letter to the hospital after verifying the details
  • Receive the treatment for COVID-19
  • On the day of discharge, sign the hospital discharge papers and pay for any non-covered expenses

Reimbursement Claim:

  • Inform the insurer about emergency hospitalization within 24 hours and planned hospitalization at least 48 hours before getting admitted
  • Submit the required documents to the insurer within 30 days of getting hospital discharge in case of in-patient, pre-hospitalization, home care expenses and within 15 days of completing post-hospitalization treatment
  • The insurer will settle or reject the claim

  • Duly signed Aditya Birla Corona Kavach claim form
  • Copy of patient’s passport
  • Proof of patient’s Photo ID (if the passport is not available)
  • Doctor’s prescription for hospitalization
  • Investigation reports, including COVID-19 test reports
  • Surgeon’s certificate or OT notes, if applicable
  • Original hospital bills with the item-wise break-up
  • Invoice or sticker of implants, if applicable
  • Bill payment receipts
  • Discharge summary consisting of patient’s medical history
  • Policyholder’s NEFT details
  • KYC details for claims above Rs 1 lakh
  • Legal succession/ heir certificate, if applicable
  • Duly signed Aditya Birla Corona Kavach claim form
  • Copy of patient’s passport
  • Proof of patient’s Photo ID (if the passport is not available)
  • Doctor’s prescription for hospitalization
  • Doctor’s certificate advising home treatment
  • Discharge certificate specifying start and completion date of home treatment
  • Daily monitoring chart of the patient signed by a doctor
