The need of the hour amid the unprecedented pandemic is dedicated to health insurance.  To meet this emergent need, New India Assurance Health Insurance has designed a plan titled New India Assurance Corona Kavach Policy to provide the much-needed protective umbrella for the COVID-19 infected. New India Assurance Corona Kavach Policy Insurance Policy covers incurred medical expenses for hospitalization and home treatment on the advice of a registered Medical Practitioner. The policy has been conceived with short policy terms to meet the emergency needs of the infected.

Coverage Offered

The cover in the New India Assurance Corona Kavach Policy Health Insurance is designed to meet the unforeseen medical expenses related to COVID-19 infection upon the Corona-virus's positive diagnosis. The primary coverage of the policy is:

  • In-patient Treatment: The cover gets triggered for overnight hospital stay without capping up the room rents to the Sum Insured.
  • Pre and Post Hospitalization Expenses: Indemnity is for 15 days before admission in a hospital and 30 days after discharge.
  • Home Care Treatment: Expenses are covered for 14 days per incident.
  • Alternative Treatment: The insured is free to undergo AYUSH Treatment up to the Sum Insured.

Inclusions of the Plan

  • Ambulance Charges: Emergency evacuation cover is limited to Rs.2,000 per hospitalization.
  • ComorbidAilments Treatment: The policy also covers treatment of the following comorbidities. However, 30% loading applies to the applicants with comorbidities.

  • Hypertension
  • Respiratory Diseases
  • Cancer
  • HIV
  • Lung Fibrosis
  • Cardiac Ailments
  • Auto-Immune Diseases
  • Optional Cover: Hospital cash up to 0.5% of the Sum Insured for a maximum of 15 days.

Exclusions of the Plan

  • Waiting Period: The claim related to COVID-19 treatment shall be accepted after the expiry of 15 days from the policy inception date.
  • Other Exclusions:
  • Claim for Corona treatment with a positive diagnosis before the policy commencement date is not accepted.
  • A positive diagnosis for Corona infection from other than a Government-authorized center shall not be admitted.
  • Diagnosis of ailment other than Corona is not covered under this policy.
  • Indemnity is not available for day-care and OPD expenses.
  • There is no cover for treatment outside the Indian geographical boundary.
  • The cover is not available for any unproven treatment and does not satisfy scientific scrutiny.
  • Hospitalization exclusively for investigation, rest, and recovery is not covered under the policy.

  • Policy Term: The policy is issued for short terms of 105 days (3.5 months), 195 days (6.5 months), and 285 days (9.5 months). The policy is not open for renewal or facilities like the free-look period.
  • Sum Insured: The range on offer is Rs. 50 thousand to Rs.5 Lakhs, in multiples of Rs.50 thousand.
  • Pre-Policy Medical Check-up: To buy New India Assurance Health Insurance for COVID-19, one does not require any medical test. 
  • Travel Restrictions: The policy cover will stand withdrawn if the insured travel to countries where the Indian Government has imposed restrictions for Corona infection.
  • Tax Benefit: The premium for New India Assurance Corona Kavach Policy Health Insurance is entitled to tax deduction under Section 80D of the Income Tax Act, 1961.   

Cancellation Terms of the Policy

The insurer may cancel the policy after serving a seven-day written notice on the grounds of fraud, misrepresentation, suppression of material fact, or non-cooperation.  No refund will be made for cancellation on the stated grounds.
