Key Points to Remember Before Setting Up a Daily SIP

Below are the points that you should consider before setting up your SIP investment from daily perspective:

  • Minimum investment: The minimum amount to be invested everyday is ₹500 with further investments permitted in multiples of ₹1. Under the JanNivesh SIP option the minimum amount of investment is ₹250.
  • Minimum commitment: Investors are required to commit to a minimum of 12 installments to enroll into this facility
  • Payment Instructions: When setting up a daily One Time Mandate (OTM) for a Daily SIP, you must select the payment frequency as "As & When presented"
  • Frequency Details: If the investor fails to specify the frequency of the investment the system will automatically default the frequency to monthly SIP.

How to Set Up SBI Daily SIP?

The Daily SIP is one of the various SBI SIP plans and can be set up through online and offline methods.

  1. Online

You can use the SBI mutual fund website to set up a daily SIP. Register using your PAN which will automate the system to check your KYC.

Steps to Start Online SBI Daily SIP:

    • Form: Start by filling up the form on any given AMC or online platform.
    • Frequency: Choose the “daily” frequency from the available options.
    • Installment: The minimum amount of installment is ₹500. However under the SBI JanNivesh SIP program option, you can start investing through a minimum amount of ₹250.
    • Duration: Ensure that you commit to a minimum of 12 installments.
    • Plan/options: The Growth option will be selected by default unless you change it to IDCW (Income distribution cum wealth) option.
    • Setting up OTM: Ensure that you select “As and when presented” as the payment frequency option.
    • Payment methods: You can use the National Automated Clearing house(NACH) facility, participating banks or select direct debit facilities.
    • Registration Time: Be aware that there is a minimum 15 day time between the day you register your SIP account and the day the amount is actually debited from your account.
  2. Offline

    • MF Utility Points of Service

Ensure that you submit the application form is submitted 20 days before your desired date of transaction

What are the Advantages of SBI Daily SIP?

  • Rupee Cost Averaging: Rupee Cost averaging is a feature which works hand in hand with SIP which not only fights inflation but also lowers the average cost of units bought in the long run. A fixed amount is invested daily despite market fluctuations which buys more units when the Net Unit Value(NAV) is low and more units when the NAV is high.
  • Mitigation of market timing risks: Daily SIP significantly reduces the need to time the market in order to invest. By spreading the investment across singular days, the risk of market volatility is reduced.
  • Power of compounding: Compounding helps the investor gain not only on the principle but also the interest gained on the principle.
  • Disciplined Investment: The daily SIP facility also facilitates a disciplined investment habit in the long run which can help a beginner investor and seasoned investors to accumulate a large corpus over time.

How does the SBI Daily SIP Work?

Example:

To understand how a daily SIP works, let’s look at Mr Pandey who has recently joined his job and plans to invest ₹500 everyday for the next 15 years. He sets up a daily SIP in a mutual fund of his choice. Assuming the rate of return to be at 12% he calculates his corpus using a SIP calculator.

Mr Pandey will accumulate a corpus of 49.7 lakh by the end of 15 years. However, it is to note that the rate of return fluctuates in a market and will never remain constant. Thus, a fixed corpus is not guaranteed.

Daily SIP vs Monthly SIP

Parameter Daily SIP Monthly SIP
Returns and performance Smooth performance but practically identical to a monthly SIP over 5+ years. 0.1%-0.7% of daily SIP returns
Bank reject charges Highly risky: if your account falls below the minimum amount of investment, the bank charges you with a bounce fee every day. Low risk: Only one day to maintain and manage the account balance for.
Flexibility Daily SIPs to not facilitate Top-ups. If you want to increase your investment amount, you need to start a new daily SIP. Highly flexible. You can use step-up SIP to automatically increase the amount of your investments as your income grows.
Payment Date Every Business day. The investor can choose any day of the month. If no date is chosen, the date automatically sets to 10th of every month.
Strategic use Designed for maximum rupee-cost averaging, smoothing out market volatility on a day to day basis. Generally preferred by salaried individuals whose cash flow matches a monthly cycle.

Is SBI Daily SIP Right for You?

A monthly SIP generally provides similar returns as that of daily SIP. However, it might be apt for certain investors.

  • Constant Flow of Income: If you are an individual with a frequent flow of cash, it is apt to match your investments with your income cycle. Sweeping a certain amount daily automates your savings.
  • Market Anxieties: If you are an individual who might stress over constantly following every market fluctuation; a daily SIP completely removes the need to time the market.

However, if you are a salaried individual or find it hard to maintain a buffer amount in your account, it is plausible for you to choose a monthly SIP over a daily SIP.

Conclusion

Thus, the SBI daily SIP offers an automated facility to invest your money in the best SIP plans available on a daily basis. It is easy to set up and is designed to help investors overcome short-term market fluctuations through a consistent time bound investment route.

FAQs

  • Does SBI daily SIP guarantee higher returns than monthly SIP?

No, SIP returns depend on market performance. The frequency does not affect the returns in the long run.
  • Can I convert my SBI monthly SIP to SBI daily SIP?

You cannot directly convert a monthly SIP into a daily SIP. However, you can cancel your monthly SIP through the SBI mutual fund portal and then start a new daily SIP in the same mutual fund as before.
  • Can I top-up my SBI daily SIP?

Although SBI offers a top-up feature to automatically increase the amount of your investment, this does not work for SBI daily SIP. It is recommended that you either start a parallel daily SIP or start a new SIP altogether after cancelling the old one.
