Best Family Health Insurance Plans for Expecting Parents in India

The number of women working in corporates is gradually becoming equal to the number of men. Keeping this trend in mind, many employers are working towards making the workplace more friendly and adaptable. As a step in this direction, a few corporate companies are offering maternity cover plans for their female employees. However, not every expecting female is covered by health insurance. Which is why, we have compiled a list of health insurance plans that provide coverage for maternity expenses. Let us have a look:

 

1. Aditya Birla Activ Health Platinum- Enhanced Plan

Activ health platinum enhanced plan offers sum assured options between Rs. 2 lakhs and Rs. 2 Crores. If you are an expecting parent, you can consider this policy as it has been designed to cover maternity hospitalization including the new-born baby medical expenses. The coverage extends to vaccinations, essential medical treatments, and lawful medical termination of the pregnancy.

2. Bajaj Allianz Health Guard Family Floater Policy

You do not require pre-medical not required up to 45 years of age and can choose the sum assured between Rs. 3 lacs and Rs. 50 lakhs in the Gold variant. The entry age criterion is between 18 years and 65 years and for children entry age limit is from 3 months to 30 years. However, it is required to continue the policy for 6 years to avail maternity insurance coverage benefits. New-born baby expenses are also recompensed for the policyholders.  

3. Bharti AXA Smart Super Medical Insurance Policy

You can choose from plan variants i.e. Value, Classic and Uber Plan. You have the option to buy maternity cover of Rs.35000 and new-born baby cover of Rs.25000 under Bharti AXA Smart Super plan.  However, the new-born baby cover is provided only for 90 days.  Bharti AXA Smart Super Uber Health Plan provides extended maternity and new-born baby cover of Rs.50, 000. Domestic air ambulance cover is provided up to Rs. 1 lakh (if sum insured is 20 and 30 lakhs). It further extends to 2 lakhs, if sum insured ranges from 50 to 100 lakhs

4. Chola MS Family Healthline Insurance Plan

If you are planning your family in 5 years, then with this plan you can get compensation for maternity expenses.  For normal delivery, the sum assured limit is Rs. 15,000 and for Caesarean delivery the limit is Rs. 25,000. And if you opt for the Chola MS Family advanced plan, then the sum assured limit for normal delivery is Rs. 40,000. Moreover, the plan offers general eye and health check-up facilities and domiciliary hospitalizations. 

5. Digit Health Insurance with Maternity Cover

In Digit health plans maternity cover is available as an add-on under the family floater health plan. The policy covers both delivery and new-born baby expenses. Unlike other plans, it covers infertility expenses, and termination of pregnancy if it is medically necessary. It covers hospital and room rent expenses, and maternity expense related such as labour and delivery, complications in pregnancy, and C- section delivery. For the second child, there is an option to get the sum assured increased by 200%.

6. Edelweiss Gold and Platinum Health Insurance Plan

Maternity cover is provided in both Gold and Platinum variants of Edelweiss health insurance policy. However, maternity insurance cover is offered after completion of 4-years of the waiting period. The maternity insurance cover is Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 2 lakhs in Gold and Platinum variant.

7. Future Generali Health Total Mediclaim Policy

Maternity insurance cover is offered after a waiting period of 2 years in this comprehensive policy. If you choose the Superior variant the sum assured can be opted between Rs. 15 lakhs and Rs. 25 lakhs, and between Rs. 50 lakhs and Rs. 1 Crore in the Premier variant. The child can be insured if both the parents are insured under the same plan. Up to a maximum of 15 family members can be covered in both Premier and Superior variant.

8. HDFC Easy Health Family Floater Plan (formerly known as Apollo Munich)

The plan allows coverage for 6 members and covers maternity hospitalization expenses. The plan has 3 variants –Standard, Exclusive and Premium. And you can avail a 7.5% discount on the purchase of a 2-year plan. The sum assured options are Standard: 1 to 15 lakhs, Exclusive: Rs. 3 lakhs to Rs. 50 lakhs, Rs. 4 lakhs to Rs. 50 lakhs. Anyone between the age group of 5 to 65 years can be covered under this policy. And the new-born baby is covered from 91 days onwards.

9. HDFC Ergo Health Suraksha Gold Plan

Health Suraksha Gold Plan by HDFC covers new-born baby expenses after 90 days of birth. The maternity benefits are provided after completion of 4 years of the waiting period. And the sum assured for normal delivery ranges up to Rs. Rs.15, 000 and Caesarean up to Rs. 25,000 and termination up to Rs.15, 000 (subjected to policy terms and conditions). The sum assured options range from Rs. 3 lacs to Rs. 10 lakhs.

10. Kotak Mahindra Premier Plan

Kotak General insurance has designed this comprehensive health insurance plan that covers child delivery expenses and up to a maximum of 2 deliveries are covered during the policy term. It also covers lawful termination of the pregnancy. New-born baby medical expenses are also covered along with both pre and post-natal expenses. Moreover, the cost of vaccination is also covered till the child is 2-years old.

11. Max Bupa - Heartbeat Family Floater Plan

The maternity plan called The Heartbeat family floater plan. This plan offers maternity cover and new-born cover in all the three variants of the plan– silver, gold and platinum. Along with these, the charges of first-year vaccinations are also covered. The three policy variants offer coverage to up to two pregnancies, provided that the policyholder and spouse have had this policy for at least two consecutive years.

12. Manipal Cigna ProHealth Plus Plan

Manipal Cigna Pro health plus plan offers a coverage up to Rs. 10 lakhs. It also provides compensation for maternity expenses, and the new-born baby expenses after the completion of waiting period of 2 years. And after the childbirth his/her vaccination expenses are also covered in the initial one year. And the sum assured for normal delivery ranges up to Rs. Rs.15, 000 and Caesarean up to Rs. 25,000 in this health insurance policy for expecting parents.

13. National Insurance Parivar Mediclaim Policy

National Insurance has designed this Mediclaim policy that covers expecting parents as well. Anyone between the age group of 18 years to 60 years. And the sum assured for normal delivery ranges up to Rs.15, 000 and Caesarean up to Rs. 25,000 in this health insurance policy for expecting parents. Additionally, it also recompenses the cost incurred on the anti-rabies vaccine for children up to the age of 5-years and the limit is up to Rs. 5000 during the policy term.

14. New India Assurance Mediclaim Policy

It is for people from 18-60 years of age and dependent children from 3 months to 18 years of age. You can claim an amount ranging from 2-5 lakhs. It also covers maternity expenses after continuing the policy for 3 years, except for early deliveries and post-natal expenses. In this policy pre-hospitalization, up to one month and post hospitalization expenses up to 2 months are compensated. To claim pre-existing illnesses, you have a waiting period of 2 years. Nevertheless, you can renew the policy for lifetime.

15. Oriental Happy Family Floater Insurance 

Entire family can be covered under a single sum assured by Oriental happy family floater policy. You can select among three policy variants as per your requirement i.e. Silver, Gold, and Diamond. Get compensation for maternity as well as your new-born baby medical expenses under the Oriental happy family floater diamond plan with a sum assured ranging from Rs. 12 lakhs to Rs. 20 lakhs. You can get yourself, your wife, your children, parents and parents-in-law insured under the same plan.

16. Religare Joy Health Insurance Plan

Couples who are planning to become parents in the next 9-months can buy Religare Joy health insurance policy. This health plan covers maternity hospitalization expenses after a waiting period of 9 months. You get admission in Single private AC room in this policy and day care procedures are also covered. If you choose the sum insured of Rs. 3,00,000 the maternity and new-baby cover is up to Rs. 35,000. And if you choose the sum assured of Rs. 5,00,000 the maternity cover and new-born baby cover is up to Rs. 50,000. However, does not cover complications related to pregnancy, abortions and miscarriages.

17. Royal Sundaram Lifeline Elite Plan

Buy this comprehensive health plan with maternity to get the best possible treatment in India and abroad. Maternity cover is provided for 2 deliveries (both the spouse should be insured). New-born baby cover along with the cost of vaccines for the first year. It also covers OPD treatment charges up to Rs.10,000 and extended ambulance reimbursement up to Rs.10,000. Also, you can avail 20% to 100% of NCB benefit. The value does not reduce even when a claim is filed during a particular year. It is suitable for expecting parents who are looking for a higher coverage amount as the minimum sum insured is Rs. 25 lakhs and the maximum sum insured is Rs. 1.5 crore in Lifeline Elite medical policy.'

18. Star Health Wedding Gift Pregnancy Cover

Star Health’s maternity plan is called Star Health Wedding Gift Pregnancy Cover. The plan offers a maximum health benefit of Rs.10 lakh. This maternity cover is for up to two pregnancies. It covers both normal and C-section deliveries and takes care of pre-natal and post-natal expenses. The expenses of the new-born baby are also covered. Both mother and child are covered in case of any post-partum complications. The waiting period for this policy is 3 years.

19. SBI Arogya Premier Plan

After 9 months of the waiting period, maternity expenses and OPD expenses as per the policy schedule. Some special features of this health insurance policy include Organ donor expenses, Physiotherapy as part of inpatient care, diagnostic procedures, and ambulance charges up to Rs. 1 lakh. After 4 consecutive claim-free years, reimbursement up to Rs. 5000 is provided for health check-ups. The policy also offers 100% restoration of sum assured.

20. Tata AIG Medicare Premier Plan

It is a simplified health plan to provide comprehensive insurance cover in case of medical emergencies. You can get yourself and your spouse covered under this plan and avail maternity coverage benefits up to a maximum of Rs. 50,000. And if a girl child is born this limit is further extended to Rs. 60,000. The policyholder can avail cashless treatment in more than 4000 network hospitals. The coverage limit for maternity expenses is up to a maximum of Rs. 50,000 and Rs.60,000 in case of the birth of a girl child. The coverage is further extendable to 7 family members under a single sum assured. It also offers coverage for emergency air ambulance services.

21. Universal Sompo Complete Healthcare Insurance

Universal Sompo has designed this complete healthcare plan with maternity and childcare coverage benefits. The maternity coverage benefits range from pregnancy to childbirth, even complicated deliveries are covered. In addition to this the policy ensures new-born baby medical expenses cover up to 90 days from birth, including pre and postnatal expenses. You can buy this comprehensive health insurance plan for your loved ones. Even your dependent children up to the age of 25 years can also be insured under this policy.

There is no point in buying a maternity insurance plan after you conceive because all policy providers have a minimum waiting period of about 2 to 3 years.
