      How is Road Tax Calculated in Jharkhand?

      The road tax in Jharkhand is calculated based on multiple factors, such as:

      • The type of vehicle (two-wheeler, four-wheeler, transport, non-transport, etc.)
      • The number of years passed after registration in the case of older vehicles
      • The weight of goods carriage vehicles
      • The seating capacity of passenger transport vehicles, such as cabs and buses

      Road Tax in Jharkhand for Two-Wheelers and Four-Wheelers

      In Jharkhand, both two-wheelers and four-wheelers used for personal purposes are classified as "personalised vehicles" and have a fixed road tax based on the vehicle cost. Check the Jharkhand road tax for different types of vehicles in the table below:

      Jharkhand Road Tax for Goods Carriages

      The table below summarises the one-time and yearly road tax payable on goods carriages (excluding trailers):

      Jharkhand Road Tax for Passenger Transport Vehicles

      Here is an overview of the one-time road tax (including green tax) and the yearly instalment payable for passenger vehicles like motor cabs and omni buses:

      Electric Vehicles

      In 2022, the Jharkhand Government launched the Jharkhand Electric Vehicle Policy to promote electric mobility in the state. Under this policy, 100% road tax exemption is available for the first 10,000 EVs manufactured in Jharkhand, 75% for the next 5,000, and 25% thereafter. EVs manufactured outside the state receive a 25% exemption from road tax during the policy period. The policy is valid until 2027.

      You can pay the Jharkhand road tax using the steps mentioned below:

      • Go to the Parivahan Sewa portal.
      • Look for the 'Online Services' menu. Select 'Vehicle Related Services'.
      • Choose 'Jharkhand' as the state and find your jurisdictional RTO. Select 'Proceed'.
      • Select 'Pay Road Tax'.
      • Enter the details of your vehicle registration and select 'Verify Details'.
      • Type in the OTP and pay your road tax in Jharkhand.

      FAQs - Jharkhand Road Tax

      The rate of road tax in Jharkhand differs by vehicle type. For example, a one-time road tax of 7% of the cost of the vehicle (excluding GST) is payable for 12 years for motor cabs and omni buses.

      A road tax of 6% of the vehicle cost (excluding GST) is payable for newly registered two-wheelers. You will also have to pay an additional 3% road tax if there is another vehicle under your name or if the cost exceeds ₹15 lakh.

      The basic road tax on a newly registered car priced at ₹10 lakh in Jharkhand is 6% of its purchase cost. You must pay an additional 3% road tax if you already have another personal vehicle under your name.

      You can pay road tax online in Jharkhand using the Parivahan Sewa portal. You must select your RTO and enter the registration details of your vehicle to proceed.

      A fine of 2% per month is levied on the unpaid road tax (one-time or yearly) amount if the tax has not been paid within the specified time.
