Every person aspires to be the best. All of us wish to study in the best school, get the best job, earn a good figure salary and live the best life. No wonder, there is a cut-throat competition for getting admissions in the best universities/ schools around the world. But once you have successfully managed to secure admission in the university or college of your choice, it is important to buy travel insurance online India plan for yourself. Just as domestic travel insurance India plans protect travellers within the country and overseas travel insurance protects them during international travel, a student travel insurance policy protects students travelling for higher studies.

Plans for an individual of 30 years age travelling to USA for 15 days

Student travel insurance is an insurance policy designed specifically for people travelling to abroad to study in a school/ college/ university outside India. Unlike overseas travel insurance, this type of travel insurance policy offers exclusive student-specific coverage that includes study interruption cover, compassionate visit, sponsor protection cover, bail bond, loss of laptop/ tablet, etc. These covers are available in addition to the basic coverage of a travel insurance policy including personal accident cover, medical expenses, loss/ delay of check-in baggage, personal liability and loss of passport.

But before you proceed to buy travel insurance online India plan, it is important to go through the various exclusions of a student travel insurance policy. By exclusions, we refer to those situations and events where student travel insurance does not protect the insured. If you get stuck in such situations, you won’t be able to get any assistance from your insurance provider. In fact, you will have to pay for any expenses or losses that you may incur in the process.

In order to avoid any rejection of claims in the future, take a look at some of the most common exclusions under student travel insurance plans below:

Pre-Existing Ailments

A lot of people today suffer from long-term lifestyle diseases or medical conditions that require regular treatment and care. If the insured student suffers from any pre-existing diseases, then any claims related to the expenses involved in its treatment will not be covered under a student travel insurance policy and will be rejected.

Self-Inflicted Injuries

Injuring oneself or self-harm is not justified anywhere. Yet, cases of students attempting suicide, harming or killing themselves reach into our ears. If in an unfortunate incident, the insured student causes self-inflicted injuries or attempts suicide, then the insurance provider is not liable to pay any compensation or cover the cost of treatment.

Consumption of Intoxicants

Everyone is aware of the ill-effects of intoxicants such as alcohol and drugs on our body. While there are certain countries where it is illegal to consume alcohol and drugs, a few countries allow its residents to consume it up to a certain limit. No matter what the law of the country where you are studying says, if you are registering a claim related to use, abuse or overuse of any intoxicants, it will be denied by your insurer. This is because insurance companies do not cover any expenses arising out of the consumption of intoxicants.

Theft Due to Negligence

Carelessness is not good for anyone and definitely not if you are insured under overseas travel insurance for students. If you lose your passport due to your negligence or carelessness, then your travel insurance provider will not cover the cost of obtaining a duplicate or new passport. Moreover, if any theft is not reported to the local police authorities, then your insurer will deny your claim.

Breach of Law

No country appreciates any breach of law. If you break any local law of the country where you are studying then you stand the risk of getting detained or arrested by the local authorities. Under such circumstances, your insurer will not provide you with any assistance even if you buy travel insurance India plan from one of the top insurance providers in the country. This is because any claim arising out of any breach of law is not covered.

Sports Injuries

Getting injured, while playing a sport, is very common. But sometimes certain injuries can have serious implications seeking medical intervention. Unfortunately, most insurance providers do not cover any intercollegiate sports injuries under their student travel insurance plans. Thus, if you suffer from such any such injuries, you will have to bear the medical expenses on your own.

Mental or Nervous Disorders

Student life can be quite stressful. Given the constant pressure to keep up and perform well in class can create a lot of stress and anxiety. To top it all is the stress of living alone that eliminates any family support and forces you to handle every aspect of your life alone. As a result, a lot of students end up suffering from depression, anxiety or develop a mental or nervous disorder. Even though such situations are not within the control of the insured, any claims related to its treatment will not be covered under a student travel insurance policy.

HIV AIDS or Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Contracting any disease is unfortunate. But if you are diagnosed with any sexually transmitted diseases or HIV/ AIDS, you will have to pay for its treatment on your own. This is because any expenses incurred on the treatment of such diseases are excluded under the overseas travel insurance plan for students.

Cosmetic or Obesity Treatment

Nothing compares to natural beauty. Nonetheless, if you obtain any cosmetic surgery to enhance your features or get operated to make yourself fit then you will alone have to bear the expenses. Insurance providers in India do not cover the expenses incurred on cosmetic or obesity treatment under the student travel insurance plan.

War or Nuclear Activity

When a war or nuclear radiation occurs, the residents of that country are not at fault. Still, any injuries or medical illness resulting out of a war or nuclear activity/ radiation will not be covered under the overseas travel insurance policy for students.

The decision to buy travel insurance online India plan can be beneficial if you land yourself in an unforeseen emergency during your study abroad. Apart from these exclusions, you will get the right coverage whether you buy overseas travel insurance or domestic travel insurance India plan for students. So go ahead and buy a student travel insurance before your course begins.
