Best Time to Visit Maldives for Ideal Weather

For ideal weather, try to visit Maldives around December to March. While the country is pretty sunny throughout the year, the average temperature during these months ranges from 23°C to 31°C. This is the peak tourist season and is preferred by several families and solo travellers who wish to relax in a luxurious setting. This season is also known as the dry season of Maldives and is perfect for cultural activities, sightseeing, water sports etc.

December to March also sees minimal precipitation and has clear warm weather. Even if there is rainfall, it is too light to ruin any plan. However, be warned that the whole country is extremely crowded during this time. If you decide to visit in November, don't miss the festivities of Mawlid, the birth of Prophet Mohammed. It is celebrated for two days and has beautiful street processions and decorations.

Best Time to Visit Maldives for Adventure Sports

Undoubtedly, the dry season is the best time to participate in adventure sports when in Maldives. With an average temperature between 24°C and 31°C, tourists can easily find a number of sports to try.

If planning to go scuba diving, then the wet season is preferable. May to November is the wet season in Maldives and is very popular among surfers. The resorts are less crowded and overall, the surf and scuba conditions are optimal, making it one of the best times to visit Maldives for fun adventure sports. The temperature of the water is also a few degrees lower and one can easily spot some reef sharks and hammerhead sharks in the shallow waters.

However, visibility is bad during this season and it is wise to venture carefully. Don’t forget to carry suitable travel insurance for Maldives with adventure sports cover. This way, you will be protected from any unexpected expenses that may put a damper on your travel plans.

Things to do in Maldives

The stunning archipelago of Maldives is unquestionably one of the best tropical places on earth. From powdered beaches to bustling market places, take a look at some of the best things to do in Maldives:

Explore the Capital city of Male

The capital of Maldives is thrumming with life and it is a shame that most tourists miss it by going directly to the islands. The city of Male has some key attractions including the National Museum and the 17th-century Mosque, the oldest in the country.  Along with it is an Islamic Centre with a gold tip. Other attractions include the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge and Rasrani Bageecha.

Relaxing Beach Holiday at Hulhumale Island

Not far away from the capital city of Male, Hulhumale Island is famous for its charming artificial beach. The island has a gorgeous green neighbourhood with a glass-topped Friday mosque and beautiful promenades above the Indian Ocean. Make sure to visit this place when in Maldives, you can go snorkelling, swimming, eat world-class food and even watch dolphins while you're here. Key attractions include the Centro Mall, the Sea House, and coffee from the Family Room.

Maafushi

Perfect for budget travellers, Maafushi offers a lot of local guesthouses. Located in the Kaafu Atoll, it has become the perfect getaway for those looking for an off-beat island. This small fisher town was badly ravaged during the 2004 Tsunami but has been rebuilding diligently for a decade.

The island has gorgeous beaches, relaxing local culture and offers tons of options like snorkelling, night and day fishing, sandbank tours and dolphin safaris. Being one of the biggest islands in the country, make sure to check its beautiful corals and stunning marine life. Key attractions include Banana Reef, Maavelaathu and Maafushi Corner. If you're planning to try their sandbank tour, then the best time to visit Maldives would be January or February.

Utheemu

In the northern region of Maldives is the Utheemu island, famous for its historical importance and stunning scenic beauty. It is also called Haa Alif Atoll and is nearly 300 km from the capital city of Maldives.

The island sees pleasant climate all year and is one of the best places to visit in Maldives for ideal weather. Key attractions here include the Utheemu Ganduvaru, the abode of the revered Sultan Mohammad Thakurufaanu. This place has been converted into a museum and boasts of fascinating interiors dating back over 500 years. The home of Maldives national hero consists of many intricate details and can interest most history buffs.

Relax on Fuvahmulah Island

This place offers many things that the other Maldivian atolls don't. The island does not have any neighbours and is spread across a whole atoll. It also has a few inland lakes, which is not commonly found in Maldives, an otherwise flat-lying nation. The place is also world-famous for its Tiger Sharks and has become a famous diving destination. It also has other species including Schooling Hammerheads, Mola Mola, Thresher Shark and Oceanic Manta. Some of the most popular attractions here include Thoondu beach, Kodak Ilahi mud-baths, and historical sites such as Vash Veu, Haviththa and Gemmiski.

Best Time to Visit Maldives for a Beach Holiday

A year-round destination, Maldives offers plenty of sun-kissed beaches that tourists can visit anytime. The country only sees a wet season and a dry season, with no drastic changes in weather conditions. December to April are the peak tourist months as the island sees perfectly dry weather perfect for a beach summer holiday. Since there is no or very little rain, tourists can enjoy their holiday without any interruptions.

This time sees a warm and tropical climate with temperatures ranging between 29°C and 31°C. The low humidity and very less rain are ideal for a lazy summer holiday at any Maldivian beach. Make sure to carry enough sunscreen and the travel insurance plan before you leave for the vacation!

Most Affordable Time to Visit Maldives

May through August are the most affordable months to visit Maldives. If you're a student or a backpacker on a tight budget, May-August is the best time to visit Maldives. This is the wettest of the wet season and right after the peak tourist season has ended. Lodging and hotels offer their lowest prices. More and more local guesthouses are opening so planning a trip around this time will be better for budget travellers. Meanwhile, don't forget to buy travel insurance for Maldives before leaving on your trip. This will keep you safe from any emergencies as well as unplanned expenses that could further disturb your budget.

Worst Time to Visit Maldives

There aren't a lot of places that can be visited any time in the year. Maldives is one such tropical paradise and a popular tourist destination because of its easygoing weather conditions. However, all the months have similar rainfall and they may hamper your snorkelling or diving plans if you're not careful in your planning.

While the country is very safe, the risk of storms is high from January to April. Make sure to keep an eye out for local news and alerts if you plan to visit during this time. To secure your trip completely, consider purchasing international travel insurance for Maldives so that there are no unexpected expenses burdening you.

Avoid visiting Maldives from May to August if you plan to go sightseeing or shopping. This period is off-season because of the monsoons and can force you to stay indoors. However, this is also a great time for budget travellers as most resorts and tourist companies offer great discounts.
